Tottenham Riots

Look at this :

Amazing woman. Stayed to face the looters to protect her shop.

A single mother who has obviously worked hard to support her daughter and run a business.

Atilla will be along shortly to re-distribute her wealth...

Interesting to see those charged appearing in court overnight. No shortage of people from well to do families or with decent jobs (I believe one was a teacher). So much for the theory that they were only stealing because they were deprived and had no hope of a future.

I like one of the accused's description of herself,

"My name is Laura Johnson, a sixth form student studying English literature, classical civilisation, geography and French at Saint Olave's Grammar School.

Yes you did, and it's a sad reflection of our society that something so obvious needs pointing out at all. Unfortunately, it does need pointing out, repeatedly.

Yep! Puts pay to the socialist lie that it's all due to the cuts and social deprivation.

See this Newsnight exchange between Harman and Gove - I thought Gove was almost going to physically biff Harman after the vocal trashing he gave her:

God she's a d1ck. Thanks for posting that 0007 - I am not getting all the good stuff out here...

Jeez - we thought we had bad riots in Bangkok last year too...

As been commented there are many people involved and reason are many for the causes.

Just like the juvenile delinquents people put what ever disgruntled slant on events as they choose. I'm sure there is an element of truth to them all. But instead of listening and trying to understand issues people are just too ready to form their own judgements and dish out the punishment irrespective of fact or reason.

It is obvious that in this case it is not race, the police or not having but simply opportunism. Perhaps she was craving a little excitement in her life. No different to the youngsters saying "yeah this is exciting, there's nothing else to do here".

It seems obvious to me there are many causes and all very complex but we are missing the complexity and some pretty fundamental issues at the heart of our society.

There were three youngsters on the radio who spoke really well and who did not participate because they knew it was wrong and they did not wish to let their single mother down. Some of these kids don't have parents and parents they may have probably more likely abused them in many ways - refering to up bringing.

I had to laugh at the Electrical Engineering student who was missing his final exams because he'd been caught stealing a TV. Perhaps he was just going to study it, I'm sure there's a plausible excuse.

This is kind of the point really. Why are people searching for reasons and causes?

1. Rioting is fun.

2. Looting is profitable.

3. The chances of being caught are tiny.

4. The penalties are likely to be negligible, particularly if you are young.

It was a perfectly rational decision. Have a laugh with your mates, get some free stuff, enjoy the feeling of doing whatever you want, know that there will almost certainly be no consequences.

Frankly, the only thing that should surprise us is that there wasn't more looting and rioting than there was.

5. Lack of respect for authority

6. Belief Society owes them a living

7. Victim based culture .... i.e. I iz doing this because of oppression

oh but most importantly

8. using (7) to justify sheer greed and opportunism

Alexis Bailey, 31, a worker at a primary school, admitted being part of a mob that tried to loot an electrical shop in Croydon. Bailey, who earns £1,000 a month at Stockwell Primary School, south London, left court with a newspaper over his face. A headline about “copycat cretins” covering his eyes, he walked into a lamp-post.

Whoops :LOL::LOL:
