Which port is Newport named after ?

I suspect there is a lot of head scratching going on right now...

If you mean racist ignoranuses then I'm with you Pat, but not all Americans.

Let's not allow one crack head to cloud our judgement. Some people are simply full of them selves all the way from their crevices up to space between their ears.

(y)

Its a slow day on the markets, and badger baiting is illegal. It appears however that yank baiting is still alive and well. :D

Careful he might get onto Donald Duck Chump to nuke us for having a little fun.
We don't want to be cruel to lonely Yanks just for fun. Have a nice day.

Which port is Newport named after ?

Well, it is not a port city. It has several harbors for boat docks. It is not named after a place. :D

You are most likely thinking of Newport, Rhode Island.

@counter_violent. How interesting.

...
It looks like London is quite dangerous.

You muppet thats a list of all murders in the last 3 years.

For the whole of the UK there were 117 people killed in those three years (Average 39 per year) out of a population of 65,000,000.

Or to put it another way.
https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/life-changing/winner-twenty-years
There have been 4,000 lottery winners of over £1,000,000 in the last 30 years. (Average 133 per year).

So you are 3 times more likely to win the lottery than of being murdered in the UK.

Your arguments are a joke.

I'm laughing at you, not with you. ;)

Your math is rather bad. If 133 win per year. That is 133/65,000,000 (0.204 per 100,000). The murder rate is 1.1 per 100,000. There were 113 homicides just in London.

Total Crime by Borough
It should be noted that these areas are only 2-3 times bigger in population than where I live. While England may have a low homicide rate in general, that is mainly due areas of almost no population next areas of extremely high population densities.

Total Crime
Total_Crime.png

Rape
There were 80 rapes in the “safest” part of London and 250 in Westminster. That is almost 10 times higher than around me.

Homicides

Hate Crimes
This seems totally strange and ironic. A country that is supposedly quite gay and immigrant friendly, has so many hate crimes.
That is zero here and 82.55/100,000 people in the “best” part of London.

Domestic Crime
According to the data provided by @Oscar Reed, nbpd had 14 domestic and family offenses (14 per 100,000). According to the data below, there was 554 per 100,000 in Richmond upon Thames and as many as 1,000 per 100,000 in Westminster.

How silly of me to quote you the actual figures YOU were using from this website.
http://www.citizensreportuk.org/reports/murders-fatal-violence-uk.html
You've now gone and changed your source for figures to another website.

Yes your right my maths is bad there were 4,000 lottery winners in the last 20 (not 30) years so thats 200 per year.
Anyhoo we seem to be comparing apples with oranges.

By your own figures blighty has an annual murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000
By the FBI's figures the US has a murder rate of 4.4 per 100,000 4 times as many.
https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2014/crime-in-the-u.s.-2014/tables/table-16

As you picked on London (a major city) the rate for a major US city is 5.2 per 100,000.

You really are NOT going to win the murder argument with a country that has more guns than people!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

Even Americans want to kill Americans. I suggest you try another tack.

How do you like them apples.

You never pay attention. The odds of winning the UK are 1:13,983,816. That is a far cry from your daft oversimplified figures.

It was not apples to oranges. The crime rates were adjusted to population size. 1.1 per 100,000 is same if the city has a population of 80,000 or 8,000,000. The borough of Westminster has 3 times the population of Newport Beach with greater than 3 times the crime. I also chose London because it has the most expensive real estate in the UK. Places with expensive real estate tend to have less crime than places that have inexpensive real estate. That is usually due to the fact their is more affluence, and; thus, the denizens have a better education.

You didn't pay attention to anything. The UK is designed differently. Cities are either very sparse or highly compact. 113 in London alone is higher than 39 just in case you were having difficulty with that concept. The 1.1/100,000 is averaged over farm towns with obviously very little crime. Your options are either to live in the boondocks, bored stiff or in the city centers with high levels of crime.

The first website was not the be-all-end-all. It didn't show everything and it even said so.

The other sources were veritable from police departments and the like.

I picked London and Birmingham and I could pick any other big city. There really is no middle ground in England. There is what I consider the countryside and then there are mega-dense city centers. It is so congested, they even have an aptly named "congestion charge" of £11.50/day. That will create a divide between the rich and poor.

Thirdly I was illustrating that you guys do everything short of murder. Guns in a country supposedly without guns. Hate crimes a in country supposedly known for acceptance.

Irony, irony.

When you guys start going as soft on immigrants as we are, we have loads of criminals to pass onto you as in the past. And don't bother to thank us. ( never do anyways ). My guess is cowboy is from an immigrant family of Germans. Seems he favours them. The Brit immigrants keep a lower profile and are more polite. Hollywood I think must share the blame for a lot of the bad behaviour, not just in the USA. It spews out an endless stream of garbage.

@hhiusa

Look its really simple, this is the USA forum.
Stop showing stats for Europe without showing related stats for the USA. The USA is a nation that wants to be the best at everything, and sure enough where crimes of all kinds are concerned you are by far the best country in the world.

This is a staggering fact if you stop and take the time to mentally digest it.
"In October 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners."

There is something fundamentally wrong in the USA and instead of trying to address the problem, the capitalist try to make money from it with private for profit prisons. There is no incentive to rehabilitate criminals when you make more money if they re-offend.
"Corrections (which includes prisons, jails, probation, and parole) cost around $74 billion in 2007 according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics."

AND what is the re-offending rate ? I expect that is on the large side too. About time they got a grip on the situation. The Brits have nothing on this score to be satisfied with. We have just let " The Yorkshire Ripper " out of jail !! He should have been on the end of a rope 10 days after the trial. We are also cursed with well intentioned " Do Gooders ".

I tried doing comparisons but you wouldn't pay attention, saying it was "apples and oranges" and applying faulty math with the lottery and murders.

Why don't you try giving some real sources instead of Wikipedia. You always provide only one source. Try doing some real research. We can compare apples with apples when you and @Pat494 say which farm town in the norf you are from.

Here is a thought, try going to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics.
