He goes on to draw parallels between the subjugation of his people by the British Empire, and the German case; then goes to considerable lengths to insist that non-violent means can achieve the same ends, and plead with Hitler to desist.

My point about the NVA generals is that they are the most qualified people in the world to know their military’s strengths and weaknesses. When I first proposed their knowledge of the Vietnam War, you all but dismissed it. You were practically saying they didn’t know what they were talking about.

All civilian losses in war are tragic. No dispute there. However, the reality of life is that when in a war, if somebody is an aggressor (no matter what weapons they choose) you have to destroy their ability to attack or die. According to you, you can never attack an adversary if civilians might accidentally get hurt. Authoritarian governments would win every war if their victims took a total loss from not fighting back.

As far as similarities to Vietnam and Taiwan, EVERY war in history can draw a parallel to another war as well as display their differences. You have to study each war on a case by case basis. If you never stood up to authoritarian governments (ie: declare neutrality) they would never have opposition when they want to conquer nations who can’t defend themselves properly.

Ok, that’s a fair point about me bringing up Britain’s involvement in WW II and you bringing up Vietnam. Since we are currently discussing Vietnam, it’s only fair you answer the Britain question. Was Britain going to war against Germany wrong?
