Hi All,
I stumbled upon a thread regarding making money by punting horses and wanted to give the guys a glimmer of hope. I had to register to reply and have since lost the thread. Here is what I wanted to say. (Forgive my English It is not my home language)
In short, a time arrived where I could hardly understand society anymore. I was unsure of my beliefs, my ambitions. So I looked in to those areas my education did not allow. At the start and when I discovered it, I was convinced a "method" of making money from horses did exist. I set myself the goal of not being like other famous punters who make margins on millions no matter how lucrative their strategies might be. When I read their bios I became negative, as at some stage I was so deep down that I believed what they said: That it takes hard work and tremendous discipline (innitially it does). Thing is that method did make me money and did work, but it wasn't what I was after. My dreams did not contain images of endless hours studying form or monitoring odds. Money, to me, was supposed to be a free flow.
So I lost it. After spending endless nights working on stats and beleiving that my solution was around the corner, I gave up. That night when I threw all my pens in the trash, all my stats burned, the missus asked me " Are you done now and do you realize you aint no Einstein?"
For some reason, even after endless hours of anger and frustration and "giving up", I still felt that I could have done more, or looked at different angles. But I stepped away for 6 months...
For some reason I felt the time was right to look at it again. I casually looked over my old notes and then looked at the stats again. I had moments of joy (as usual), when I spotted patterns, but they were old familiar failures...
So I ran an angle which I had never tried before (not sure why)... It looked very promising producing 29 from 30 successes. But I also knew that winning streaks happen... I have had 30 in a row before. So I asked the missus to spend a few hours with me. I gave her the set of prerequisites and explained the decisions. She wasn't very happy at first, but when she was randomly able to pick money (and realized it), she couldn't get enough...
It has been a while, and I don't see money as the be all and end of it all, but I would like to assure the seekers out there that it is possible. Not to make margins on millions, but make as much money as you would like and what your bookie would allow, from a small bank. Most money mangement techniques apply, but in general, today, I feel it a shaim people still consider "Ponies" to be a reckless gamle!
So outside of the hope and optimism I would like to give, I am willing to also give the following tips:
- Get your betting maths and methods down! (understand all about scalping and arbitrage to the utmost degree and practice) - You don't need it but it will open your mind to that discovery.
-Gather statistics! Some websites allow filtering, but you'll need your direction and your own stats. You cannot do it without stats and proper stats at that!
-Fully understand the game and eliminate non-factors (hint: Like weight)
-Don't stop believing! Those that say it is not a get rich quick scheme just haven't looked hard enough! When I started I made on average 93 points profit every three or four weeks (depending on the number of races/month). You fellas are free to believe what you want, I can only give you my word.
- Make a plan! Decide what set of circumstances you want to test. I wasted endless hours just "browsing" and not properly testing the stats.
I don't hope to gain anything from this thread. Thing is I have been frustrated, angry, doubtfull etc. over not being able to get "it". I almost gave up on it, just accepting "they" were right. BUT thank the lord I somehow persisted! The joy has been more in the knowing than the actual profittting.
The information is infront of you... little bit of effort and you're home free!
