Joe Ross Trading Seminar & Course

Hello FTSE Beater,

This is an interesting thread, thanks for the link.
Another interesting article about spreads by Joe Ross you can find here: http://www.tradingeducators.com/trading_philosophy/spreads.pdf

On that site www.tradingeducators.com there are other nice (free) downloads also.

I never had the opportunity to join one of his seminars, but his book on spread trading was a great help to me. I trade spreads myself for a few years now, and found it a good way to consistently make money in the markets, while keeping the risk relatively low.
I mainly spread grains and livestock, less frequently softs and energies.

Best regards,
Andreas

Glad to hear it Andreas,

In fact we'll soon be stocking his range of books in the store, for those that are interested.

Should be available in the next couple of weeks.

Hi FTSE
This is someone else who uses spreads. He's moved from the Pit to the screen.

He also reckons the eurex will give cbot a run for their money since cbot's operating costs are about ten times that of eurex:

neil

great link

and by what he was saying, this guy for sure is not gonna be spending any of his time doing training - who would, when you can have the buzz of trading !

only thing i would query is that this guy is so close to the action that he thinks electronic trading is maturing - whereas i feel its just at the begining

there is no mystery to electronic trading nowadays and the complexiities have been dealt with - cbot already trade electronically - and have dumped the Eurex system that they used and was called ACE

the Eurex system does not report all trades anyway - so is hardly perfect

whoever has the liquidity and whoever has the best fees is gonna get the business

but the key is the liquidity - so as long as the cbot dont fall asleep at the wheel - eurex will find it hard to get control of the key cbot contracts

Hi FTSE Beater,

Grains and livestocks spreads "behave", even though the lean hogs can be a volatile lot at times. I stay away from the pork bellies, they are a nightmare to trade.
As for the energies, I did a number of longer term crude spreads before, and sometimes the seasonal HU/HO spreads. But generally speaking I do not like the N.Y. markets too much, which are known for volatility and sometimes big slippage. To enter spread orders there, you can practically only use limit orders, which often means you can just not get filled.

Wish you luck with your trading !
Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Everyone,

It's nice to see this thread being started. After 46 years of trading, the most consistently low risk, profitable method of trading continues to be spread trading.

We have further information that you can view from a recent article I wrote for Futures Magazine.

http://www.futuresmag.com/reprints/futures_spe_2003_p28_29_30.pdf

I appreciate what has been said about this type of trading, and it is true that you can literally schedule when, and under what conditions you will enter a spread provided you have the proper tools.

Spread trading is one of the surest ways to trade, and the one that offers the most level playing field.

Stop running, which is the nemesis of all traders, is non-existent in spread trading.

But, there I go repeating what you can read in the Futures Magazine article.

If you want to learn more about spread trading, or daytrading for that matter, we will be in London again in May of 2004. Check us out a www.tradingeducators.co.uk

We always try to have a lot of free and valuable material for you to enjoy and with which to learn.

As someone said, I teach people to trade for the sheer pleasure of it. Nothing makes me happier than to change someone's life and help them to become successful in trading.

Cheers, and best wishes to all for the upcoming holiday season.

JR

PS By the way, if the name Umfowenu is attached to this message, it's because traders in South Africa called me "Brother" which is what Umfowenu means in the Zulu language.

Umfowenu,

I could not agree more. All my friends in the US who consistently made money in futures all are spread traders. I will not say that spread trading has no risk, it does. But it is the best way as far as I am concerned to make money without to much hassle in these fickle commodity markets.

Best regards, and a good weekend to you,
Andreas

Hi JR

Thank you very much for taking the time to post. :)
That is a superb article from futures magazine and for me sums up wonderfully the advantages of spreads trading.

I'm still taking on what you taught me and continuing to looking back on the notes. Thanks you for all your support via e-mail

Andreas,

You are welcome. I'm happy to answer questions about trading and spread trading.

All the best

JR (umfowenu)

There is a thread about Joe Ross seminars on Elitetrader, click on the link below. As usual there are good and bad comments being made about him. There are also some links which make interesting reading. My initial impression is that Mr Ross like most trading gurus is a very good teacher with some usefull information to pass on but at the end of the day it will still come down to the psychology of the person pressing the trade button in other words YOU lol.

Never a truer word spoken Mr Carlo sir :)

For anyone who is both interested and mad enough to stay up until 2:30 in the morning, Joe is having a free chat session tomorrow night. Alternatively you can just read the archives :cheesy:

I'll hopefully be there - subject to staying awake.

Trading Books

Hi Folks.

Have you ever bought a trading book from AMAZON.COM as opposed to AMAZON.CO.UK? I'd like to use .COM coz the prices are much less including postage. I'm concerned there may be additional customs charges. If u've ever bought or did so recently pls lets know how it went.

Cheers! :cheesy:

I've bought books from Traders Press in the US on several occasions because they specialise in trading. Apart from paying extra for overseas shipment, the books arrived in a timely manner two-three days after placing my order.

I know you asked specifically about Amazon, but I've never bought trading books from them.

I have bought using firms they act as introducerss for and have received books and other materials from the states and canada quicker than from uk -postage was known in advance - there does not seem to be a customs problem

Skims and Rogn

Cheer!! I've been trying to get feedback on this for ages. Would u believe it? ;)

Seguna

I have bought loads of books, DVDs etc from Amazon.com and Traderpress. Have never had a problem, but I have also bought software from other sites and been stung for customs duty at the time of collection. I think it is a bit of a lottery - technically you could get stung but the chances of being done are minimal.

HTH
