Asian Coronavirus Outbreak

Coronamadness setting in here too.
Freezer shop cleared out of everything bar turkeys and vegan burgers.
Bog roll now gone. Some expensive quilted kitchen towel left.

How on earth could you eat a Pangolin.

How hard CV, would you like your government to crack down on the problem?

Would you comply with:

  1. Compulsory face masks
  2. Being told to stop what you're doing and go home immediately
  3. Forced blood tests and swabs on demand
  4. Forced quarantine
  5. Welding shut the main entrance to your residence
  6. New emergency laws to section those who refuse to comply
  7. Silencing dissenting voices
  8. Arresting 'known troublemakers' under the pretense that they failed to obey the quarantine laws

Should we hold off on all of the above for now or go straight to China's shining example of caring for their citizens?
Why not shut the whole country down- Italy has (maybe), surely they know better than us?

What exactly do you want 'Western Governments' to do if not the things in the above list.
Please actually tell us.
Should we just let people who have flu self medicate at home like in the normal world we all lived in 33 days ago?

What does it feel like to have coronavirus?

One of the first people in Scotland to contract coronavirus has spoken about his experience of the illness.

He was diagnosed with Covid-19 about 10 days ago following a trip to Italy and becoming feverish

The man, in his 50s, was treated in isolation in a Scottish hospital and has now fully recovered.

"I felt no symptoms. I was completely fine and went to work on the Wednesday and Thursday. Later on the Thursday evening, I started to feel a bit of a flu coming on. I had a mild fever, I felt shivery but the biggest symptom was aches and pains, particularly in my legs.

"I was feverish - that continued through Thursday night and I didn't sleep too well."

"By the time I went to hospital, I was feeling fine. The mild flu symptoms quickly dissipated, I had no leg pain, no fever, no cough and no shortness of breath."

The patient remained in isolation for eight days and was released on Monday after two consecutive nasal swabs came back negative for Covid-19 .

"I felt well. My symptoms seemed to have gone within three or four days.

For many, it is nothing more than a bad cold, really."

Nowhere in the above story is there any mention of special medical treatment given. No mention of any treatment at all, in fact. Because there is nothing to see here.

In these 'The science is settled' times as a western leader, it's probably hard to improvise from the hymn sheet handed to you.

Maybe the rest of us should just 'trade what you see'.

When this news cycle ends it will replaced with whatever they want it replaced with..

Official govt scientific reps will play to the govt tune.

Govt will be forced into measures that other countries have adopted.
How about we listen to the real independent experts.

Probably Monday for Australia. Unfortunately Australia is a follower not a leader.
Midnight tonight AET (so technically Monday)..... I wish my trading was as accurate with predictions!

I note that the crowd restrictions etc of 500 in Australia still won’t start till Monday (500 still seems a lot.... I wonder where they plucked that figure from.... I am thinking Church Congregation or similar (Happy clappy not High Church where you would be lucky to get 5 these days). I do note that the PM Scomo 🤡 is an avid attender at an institution called “Hillsong”...😇

Went to the library pick up my DVDs and books.
Not many at the best of times but today no one.
Parkrun on Saturday normal numbers, about 250 in my local one.

Being over weight is a much bigger problem in Australia.

Too true....Too many Lamington’s, rocky road and other peculiar Aussie delicacies plus the Fast food addiction.
When I first spent some time in Aus in 1988 I was very impressed on the health, well-being and general attitude of the Aussies... and very few fatties, fast forward to when I came back over 20 years later I thought I was in another country.... so many morbidly obese waddling around claiming it’s someone else’s fault, medical reasons, genetics etc etc

I do hope they continue park runs inspite of restrictions....Outdoor exercise badly needed!

Just heard Uber are working with health authorities to exclude infected people from operating their accounts, you know those roadside tests..................

We are fcukd, as soon as you are infected you will be shutdown.

...............Whilst businesses will suffer in the short term, growth and prosperity will return very quickly as soon as the virus is on the wane. ...........

That seems pretty optimistic, Tim, relying first on whether businesses can weather the storm in the short term - shouldn’t like to be running an airline, for example - and second whether future demand picks up quickly where I suspect confidence will take some time to recover, let alone the wherewithal.

The economic situation has been brought about by government action, rather than the virus itself which, although nasty and virulent, is only flu with a death rate a couple of percent higher than other flu strains. I’m very high risk since at 80 it’d likely be a death knell if I picked it up on top of the lung infection I’ve got at the moment (getting better :)) so in lock-down for the duration and next holiday about to be cancelled. If I were one of the 80% who can expect only a week’s nasty fluey type illness, at worst, then I’d be pretty miffed that my life (and wealth) was being so heavily disrupted.

I hope you have your mask handy Jon.
Basil brush is saying all businesses will be bailed out by the long suffering taxpayers.
They must be thrilled. Will it include their 7 figure salaries too ?

Oooooh, such a nice turn of phrase.

:)

Global curfew implementation stage, first phase is immediate panic to buy stuff, they keep telling us not to panic buy - just buy what you need, but then they don't tell us what we actually need, therefore human instinct is to stock up and hoard.

UK - we look like we're not quite telling the truth phase, accompanied by international body condemnation and questioning.

UK public like uninformed zombies to the apocalypse (uninformed about what the government is telling us to do, of course).

It couldn't be more clear how unclear the situation is!

Have you got logistics sorted Jon? Food etc? People to help?

Hi John, best wishes for a full recovery on your chest issues, I’m sure it is worrying for you and your loved ones. Rest assured I am sure no one is miffed, and if they are they need to rapidly re- orientate themselves, these are extraordinary times and require an extraordinary response. As people wake up to this, hopefully everyone will pull together to get through this. Best wishes again and be well.

More than 200 scientists have written to the government urging them to introduce tougher measures to tackle the spread of Covid-19.

In an open letter, the 229 specialists in disciplines ranging from mathematics to genetics - though no leading experts in the science of the spread of diseases - say the UK's current approach will put the NHS under additional stress and "risk many more lives than necessary".

Ah.. it's a maths problem. Though it was a medical problem. No worries. Carry on.

Yep it's a maths problem with lots of variables.

Well, it appears the UK Gov COBRA Emergency Planning is now in full swing.

Doddery Old Codgers, being the clear and present threat to National Security are the target of most planned measures.

The plan seems to be to identify, isolate and drive insane anyone aged 70 or above.

They are to be confined to their homes for an indefinite period and denied all contact with others.

Watching the news or even seeking solace in light entertainment on TV is strictly forbidden by measures already in place.

Non-compliance to these measures is already a criminal offense.

A well thought out strategy to reduce the economic burden posed by the elderly.

Make 'em work to 67, let them spend life savings providing free childcare and other charitable services for a few years and then drive them to the brink of starvation and insanity in isolation as quickly as possible thereafter.

In the name of protecting and caring for them, of course.
