No I think you were right. It looks like they are selling into strength. We did not even get a pop at 10400. With such a good NFP figure that does not strike me as a good sign.

It also is of some concern that oil cannot stay below $50. I have to admit, that I was surprised that we rebounded so quickly from Wednesday's $48s

Still ranging 10300 - 10400. Now 14 fallers but I'm not convinced this is on a downward track yet. I'd like to see another test of 10360 fail first or a clear drop below 10340 before getting back in with a short.

True, but, the NFP data is possibly the most anticipated data of all. The fact that we could not rally through 10400 in the first hour seems worrying. Volume is also pretty mediocre.

I don't really have a view on how much lower we can go today, but, I did feel we had a good chance of getting up to around 10450 when I saw the data.

Yeah I thought that the post NFP rally was a bit insipid. It didn't even manage to break 10400.
However that does not mean that it is ready to go down yet. It'll probably test 10360 again and if it fails we may then be set up for a break down.

Well they are trying to push the dow back up but the S&P and Nas don't seem too keen

Honeywell is holding this up like GM the other day. Honeywell stock is up nearly 5% on rumours of a bid from United Technologies. Boeing, Home Depot, Disney anf Verizon are also posting good gains.

Oh they have wheeled the bid rumours out now eh!

Yeah, very good at doing that for the FTSE as well

Would have thought UTX would be down a bit more if it were true?

' Among gainers, Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE:HON - News) jumped 4.7 percent to $36.81, fueled by market talk that the aerospace and industrial conglomerate will be bought by rival United Technologies Corp'

Have not been here long. Would someone be kind enough to offer an opinion on the Consumer Credit figures expected at 8pm.

Can these figures move markets ? and in which direction ?

These are the March 05 figures due today. The consensus at Bloomberg is for a $6billion increase. I guess it is all about sentiment.

A higher figure may be indicative of irrational exuberence (to coin a phrase). A lower figure indicative of tightening ?

Any ideas ?

Anyone for a close into the lows of the session? The Dow 15min chart just doesn't look good in relation to 10400........We made lows for the session came back in good fashion and then failed to create a positive effect in relation to 10400......

Therefore the market is not looking good hence the argument for close into the lows.....

Probably not reliable as an immediate or applicable technicl tool. On a psychological pov the onsumer credit number may point to a voluntary contraction by the public which is a bearish signal yet fairly useless for exact timing yet supportive if you have a bearsih stance. Expansion implies healthy demand (not necesarily a healthy result)

Much obliged.

Lovely stuff. Glad I decided just to watch today and not panic into closing shorts.. that is exactly what they would have wanted!
