Yes, until 1968.Germany!
Then it got worse every year.
So it's a 'No' for now.
The last chancellor who had to go for lying before the elections was Helmut Kohl in 1998.
And it got worse every year, and much worse with every election of the government.
It's not so worse that I cannot continue writing wihout being fined. Not yet.
The main parties in Germany have no real differences.
Their political goals are very similar.
The difference between Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. is not enough to call it a good democracy as there is no real opposition.
Germany does not have an accepted opposition, and the most weird thing is that they leave the parliament when AfD is speaking in an intolerant and arrogant way, besides more than 10% of the population elected that party.
IMO it's the only opposition party Germany has in the parliament. That shows that democracy has left the scene.
The key of a working democracy is tolerance against people and opponents (not all ideas or behaviour!), respect to other opinions and the basic freedoms without a thread of violence. And how they treat the opposition. If they treat them like enemies, somtething is very wrong.
Democracy is eroding if the different parties do and want nearly the same, their is no difference to a one party system as communist countries implemented it.
Switzerland. What is you idea of a democratic country with a smart and democratic leader?
IMO meanwhile only Switzerland.
I don't even know the leaders, and I don't know much about their system.
Good leaders must not be famous, but dictators need it.
That's not necessary if I see what they are doing.
Even if they have a complicated system for their citizens with different levels.
