Ukraine invasion

Another super article here well worth reading. Sometimes I wonder what is happening to the fabric of British society which was admirable and highly regarded all over the world.

My main gripe is with all the Brexit shenanigans and the far freaking right obsessed with migration.

Here are the facts.

UK has a declining birthrate currently around 1.54.
UK has an aging population, living longer with more ailments requiring long term care.
UK has a shrinking tax base.
UK NEEDS migrant population to support essential public services often under paid. i.e. NHS

UK is not a small Island as only 7% of all land is built up. Government could pass laws to allocate 3% more land to housing and prices would drop over night. However, the aristocracy and all the land owning top 1% would see their assets shrivell up along with their genitals. Unthinkable as the Lords would never pass such a decision.

Approx., only 14% of the are migrants. About half that from Europe and the other half from the globe most from Commonwealth.

By all accounts the lack of Government funding accounts for failing hospitals and sale of social housing to raise revenue by councils to support essential services. A remarkably stupid political decision started by that old tart Mrs T.

UK has a whole host of poor productivity growth and excess imports over exports coz pretty useless in producing mass consumption goods desired by the public.

Services now also failing especially finance since Brexit.

Heavy defence and high tech sectors require big upfront capital and continued warfare.

When you turn on the TV all they EVER talk about is migrants.

Far Flucking USELESS LAISY Sausages seen only on Tuesdays looking down at hard working migrant populace.

Same goes for recent events in Germany who is in the same pickle with migrants (500K needed annually) to keep the tax base constant. However, because they are a better balanced economy producing goods and services, slightly better than the UK. Far right also banging their drums over there.

That's the problem with such people called the super Aryan race, who like to blame other successful migrants for their plight.

I appreciate this is the Ukraine thread but having read that article about sowing discontent in the national id, I wonder if motor mouths like Farage are just plants working for the enemy.

UK really has lost the plot. Now I feel we are losing reputation globally along with those daft cowboys across the pond.

Thank you very much. Rant over :)
This slapped across my screen while clicking about

UK has a declining birthrate currently around 1.54. ☑️
UK has an aging population, living longer with more ailments requiring long term care. ☑️
UK has a shrinking tax base. ☑️
UK NEEDS migrant population to support essential public services often under paid. i.e. NHS ☑️ ......etc., etc.

And the rest of the rant appears to tick mostly the ☑️ boxes

Nothing wrong with a good rant.
It's an Englishman's (Britain's) right to
  • freedom of speech and
  • freedom of press and
  • hard fought right against the crown to criticize the British Government.
The English rose is not without it's thorns.

However, if you are ever driven past the point of dispare with British thorns, unable to bear British social benefits - funded by British tax payers - that so many from all corners of the world, risking life and limb, come seeking, may I suggest the attractive resettlement prospects of these noble candidates of exemplary democracy, freedom of speech and press and right to criticize the Government.
  • Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), North Korea ( top choice - a global leader in democracy, its in the name - right )
  • Belarus,
  • Syria,
  • Myanmar,
  • Cuba and
  • Venezuela and last but not least
  • Russia

NATO is not, will not be party to conflict in Ukraine — Scholz

Accordingly, there is consensus

Head of NATO says no troops going to Ukraine as the Kremlin warns of wider war

Feb 27, 2024 9:42 AM EST

Some may argue that Scholtz or Stoltenberg only pull the strings in so far as the ultimate behind the scenes master of puppets tolerates.
Should the great one not claim the hat of Commander and Chief is no guarantee that grandpa & son will, besides other dealings, be holding the reins. Jack in the box surprises are feasibly not out the question. It is not unfeasible that winds may change.
Some may argue that the great one is unstable and can turn on a dime.
Then, of course, the head puppet - unlike 'directorial' democracies (aka autocratic democracies - in the facetious sense) - is only figuratively head puppet with limitation of powers; the head puppet, as is known, has to contend with the power checks and balances invested in the congress. A fact the great one often forgets. And while the great one did start the wall - an underachieved measure of credibility and hope for fans - congress hindered at every step. And no, Mexico did not pay for the wall :
not directly - www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/fact-check-mexico-never-paid-it-what-about-trump-s-n1253983 and
not indirectly - www.politico.com/story/2019/01/10/fact-check-mexico-border-wall-1073928.
So, should the great one win the 2024 prize, the driving motives of border issues (past appropriation/diverting of military funds) and an up one on Obama with a very own nobel peace prize may induce the great one to give it all the great one's got; guns blazing.

From previous posts you appear unsatisfied with both Scholtz and Germany,
If Germany's wayward ways ever crosses your red line may I suggest the attractive resettlement prospects of these noble candidates of exemplary democracy, freedom of speech and press and right to criticize the Government.

The poster's desperation is tangible.
However what is today is no guarantee of tomorrow.
An unforeseen change of wind and the desperate reinforcements echoes of Neville Chamberlain 'peace in our time' is assigned to history; a reality of yesterdays papers.

Storms in the fatherland - Germany’s rude political awakening
Snapshot -

One tractor parked near the Victory Column had a portable toilet strapped to its rear, with a placard stating: “Foreign policy is shit. Asylum policy is shit. Environmental policy is shit. Health policy is shit.”

Under Merkel, with the U.S. guaranteeing Germany’s defense, the country managed to remain secure without being called upon to sacrifice. Cheap energy from Russia and unencumbered global trade helped keep German industry competitive; and despite the birth of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in 2013 — then as an anti-euro party — the notion it could grow so popular as to challenge for power seemed far-fetched.

Germans are now experiencing a rude awakening.

The country’s leaders fear a second Trump term could leave Europe without American protection and leave Germany as Ukraine’s biggest military backer.

Germany’s export-oriented economy, battered by high energy prices since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and myriad global trade disruptions, was the world’s worst-performing major economy last year, and with no rebound in sight looks destined for its first two-year recession since the early 2000s.

Two middle-aged men stood among the tractors and trucks, warming their hands over a fire pit they’d built on the side of the road. It wasn’t their first protest against the government, they said: They’d been to protests against Covid measures and against arms deliveries to Ukraine. Tax hikes on farmers and truckers, they said, were just the latest affront.

“The coalition government must go,” added one of the men, Martin Zühlke, who said he heads an association of biogas plant owners from the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. “When we look at the government’s policies, we see a lot of arrogance, ignorance and stupidity packed with ideology and still more stupidity.”

His companion, Thomas Strahl, who said he worked in a municipal office, delivered a far more extreme assessment — and one that went well beyond diesel — saying he’d been disturbed by the government’s arms shipments to Ukraine and by what he called its “Russophobia.”

Germany’s rude political awakening

Germany went from envy of the world to the worst-performing major developed economy. What happened?

The German Democratic Republic (GDR), commonly known as East Germany, and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), commonly known as West Germany, were two separate states that emerged after World War II in Germany. Here's a summary of their key differences:
  1. Political Systems:
    • GDR: The GDR was a socialist state under the influence of the Soviet Union. It was governed by the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and was a one-party state.
    • FRG: The FRG was a democratic state with a parliamentary system. It embraced capitalism and was governed by multiple political parties.
  2. Economic Systems:
    • GDR: The economy of the GDR was centrally planned and state-controlled, following socialist principles. Industries and resources were nationalized, and there was limited private enterprise.
    • FRG: The economy of the FRG was based on a social market economy. It combined free-market capitalism with a strong welfare state, promoting competition while also providing social welfare and protections.
  3. International Relations:
    • GDR: The GDR was closely aligned with the Eastern Bloc countries and was a member of the Warsaw Pact, the Soviet-led military alliance of Eastern European countries.
    • FRG: The FRG was a member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and forged strong ties with Western democracies, particularly the United States.
  4. Geographical Division:
    • GDR: The GDR encompassed the eastern part of Germany, including the capital city of East Berlin.
    • FRG: The FRG included the western part of Germany, with its capital in Bonn (later moved to Berlin after reunification).
  5. Social Structure:
    • GDR: The GDR emphasized equality and social welfare, but political dissent was suppressed (as in current Russia), and citizens had limited freedoms, including restricted travel.
    • FRG: The FRG promoted individual freedoms, including freedom of speech and movement. It offered a higher standard of living compared to the GDR.
  6. Fall of the Berlin Wall and Reunification:
    • The Berlin Wall, erected by East Germany to prevent citizens from fleeing to the West, became a symbol of the division between the two German states.
    • In 1989, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and following political and social changes in Eastern Europe, the GDR began to disintegrate.
    • In 1990, the two German states were reunified, leading to the dissolution of the GDR and the incorporation of its territory into the FRG. This event marked the end of the Cold War division of Germany

GERMANY AND NATO

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION – IN PARTICULAR ITS PURELY DEFENSIVE TASKS – ARE, IN VIEW OF THE WORLD WIDE POLITICAL TENSION, IN FULL HARMONY WITH THE NATURAL INTEREST OF THE GERMAN NATION WHICH, AFTER A DREADFUL EXPERIENCE GAINED IN TWO WORLD WARS, IS LONGING AS ARDENTLY AS ANY OTHER NATION IN THE WORLD FOR SECURITY AND PEACE.

Konrad Adenauer, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany speaking at the accession of West Germany to NATO Paris, 9 May 1955

Its not unfeasible that unlike Putin - with a nuke-threat here, and a nuke-threat there, here a threat, there a threat, everywhere a nuke-threat, old MacPutin had a (nuke) farm, Ee i ee i o - with sufficient provocations and posturings the other bogeyman might arrive unannounced like a thief (strike) in the night

Dramatic moment NATO Top Guns intercept Russian warplanes over Baltic Sea… then head off MORE Putin aircraft north of Poland as Vladimir tests the West's defences
  • NATO said that two French Mirage 2000-5s intercepted a Russian SU-30-M aircraft over the Baltic Sea

If Austin talks about risk of NATO-Russia conflict, it means US has a plan for it — Lavrov

Putin's worst nightmare: Even in death, Alexei Navalny proves to be Vladimir's nemesis as huge crowds chant 'Russia without Putin' and 'Putin is a killer' during funeral in greatest challenge to Vladimir in years

Putin must be very busy dreaming up ways to deal with Finland and Sweden.

How dare they give up 200 yrs of neutrality and defy Russia's wishes.

The Telegraph now reports that is has seen intelligence documents detailing Russian plans for agents to set up a '15,000-man strong border police force' made up of former militias in Libya to funnel migrants towards Europe.

Putin plans to stoke conflict in Africa with private militias, 'weaponising' the flow of migrants to try and influence European elections
  • Russia already wields influence over the main routes used by migrants
  • Now, it has been warned that - using paramilitary forces such as Wagner - Putin will stoke unrest in already volatile African countries, driving refugees north
