Capitalism

How can politicians effect plantation of trees?

Subsidise producers by collectively taxing consumers.

If there was money to be had farmers would become woodman. In fact as it happens woodman can't even build on their own woodlands due to planning regulations and permitted development laws.

To change those rules I think we need WWIII.

I considered buying woodlands but changed my mind as I can get the benefits of woodlands without parting with cash. Nothing you can do with them other than prune trees and collect wood for burning.

Pie in the sky unless you are up for some tax increases? Politicians voting for tax hikes :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Why does planting trees have to be linked to money?

If the govt are concerned about the environment and de-forestation, which they should be, then they could simply mandate everyone to plant some trees.

For those ahead of the curve, they don't need govt permission to act....they just do it anyway !

What's happening to you - free marketeer and capitalist that you claim to be - now trying to control people.

Criminalise plantation of cannabis!

Criminalise non-plantation of trees!

What's the world coming to???:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I was thinking more of the rain forests being decimated for growing crops and ranching. Capitalists don't care about the wildlife, just filling their bank accounts.

The planting of trees costs money. Trees and land go together. There is very little land in the UK that belongs to nobody. Who owns the land has to grow the trees there, either with his own money, or someone else's.

This is one of the basic reasons for Brexit. Freedom to do your own thing. That kind of freedom brings responsiblities. The growing of trees in urban Britain is as important as a new highway , or airport. otherwise there is going to be a concrete jungle all over the country. Yet, for the latter, governments wipe out whole villages for their construction, including the trees planted there.

We have to replace what we destroy, otherwise there will be nothing left.

Agree 100% with everything you say Split,

Just like to underline Freedom and Reponsibilities to some people means increased regulation banning some plants and regulating the plantation of others.

People jumping over fences like foxes. All very clever stuff. I'm sure there is a plan somewhere. :)

I was thinking more of the Amazon and other major rainforests. The Brazilian, African and other 3rd world Govts are too hopeless to manage their own situations properly. They could use their air forces to destroy illegal loggers' trucks etc. but won't because of bribes and threats.

Wouldn't blame the Africans

See that program about saving the elephants and ivory trade. Chinese claim ivory tusks obtained before 1974 or some date can be legally imported.

You never guess where they get their certificate of origin from. Not Africa but Europe! I think they mentioned Amsterdam. So bulk of the money from ivory trade goes to Holland. Chinese think they are buying legit stuff.

Why have any date as to what is legit and what not. Just ban adn stop the lot of them. Felt quite sickened watching it. Simply so that some women can use hair brushes with ivory handles or some Chinese can have some ivory artefact on their mantle piece.

Humanity is marvellous in justifying anything it wants. It even created God and put man on charge of Earth above all other creation. Doesn't that rock??? :sneaky:

Feel a rant coming on so I'll stop :!:

I see that trees have become a major factor in capitalism. My research shows that tree futures in UK are not as bad as some would have you believe. From a low during the First World War we are now in a steadily increasing uptrend:

It's blindingly obvious that we're going to peak out at about 16% in 2100, so I'm staying long in trees.:cheesy:

This looks about right to me. Germany and the UK are footing the bill for [EU] Greece's lavish public servant expenditures. They don't want to keep their house in order and they want the EU [eh-hem, Germany and the UK] to pay for it. :whistling

Especially when the government pay you to burn wood/biomass.

The Left Hates You. Act Accordingly.

They hate you.

Leftists don’t merely disagree with you. They don’t merely feel you are misguided. They don’t think you are merely wrong. They hate you. They want you enslaved and obedient, if not dead. Once you get that, everything that is happening now will make sense. And you will understand what you need to be ready to do.

You are normal, and therefore a heretic. You refuse to bow to their idols, to subscribe to their twisted catechisms, to praise their false gods. This is unforgivable. You must burn.

Jim: Grant, you expect me to run your campaign for you?

Grant: Have I any choice in that?

Jim: You certainly have. But if I'm to stay in the picture, I want to know what you're planning to say here tonight. I have a right to know.

Grant: Why, Jim, you can know. I'm going to tell them that they do a lot of yapping about communism but as long as they think about high profits instead of high production, they're playing the communists' game. High production is the way to kill high prices.

Jim: They want high prices.

Grant: High prices mean inflation. Inflation today means depression tomorrow. And a depression in these United States is exactly the ace card Moscow is waiting to draw.

Jim: They don't want to hear these things.

Grant: They're gonna hear them. They're gonna hear that capitalism itself is being challenged. If it doesn't survive, it's because men like themselves haven't the guts or imagination to make it survive.

Jim: You can't talk to that crowd this way. You'll antagonize them.

Grant: All right. So what? So I'll antagonize them. I yelled my head off about labor and its responsibilities. I'm going to lay it right on the line for industry, too.

Now, look here, Jim, you know just as well as I do that there are men at that banquet who'll be rooting for a depression, just so they can slap labor's ears back.

Jim: And I suppose you have a few well-chosen words to say about tax reduction.

Grant: You better not worry so much about tax reduction until we accomplish some of the things we have to accomplish. I'm going to tell them that the wealthiest nation in the world is a failure unless it's also the healthiest nation in the world. That means the highest medical care for the lowest income groups. And that goes for housing, too. One thing this nation is not rich enough to afford is not having a roof over our heads.

And I'm going to tell them that the American Dream is not making money. It is the well-being and the freedom of the individual throughout the world from Patagonia to Detroit. We can't be an island of plenty in a world of starvation. We have to send food, clothing, machinery, and money to the bitter, impoverished people of the world. Try to recreate their self-respect. Give them the desire again for individual freedom.

And I'm gonna tell them that as long as dictatorships remain in the world, we better remain well-armed. Because the next time, we're not going to get two years to get ready. They're gonna jump us overnight.

And I'm gonna tell them that there's only one government which is capable of handling the atomic control, world disarmament, world employment, world peace, and that's a world government. The people of 13 states started the United States of America. I think the people of that many nations are now ready to start a United States of the World. With or without Russia. And I mean a "United" States of the World. With one Bill of Rights. One international law. One international currency. One international citizenship.

And, I'm going to tell them that the brotherhood of man is not just an idealist dream, but a practical necessity if man is going to survive.

Abbott: Strange as it may seem, they give ball players nowadays very peculiar names.

Costello: Funny names?

Abbott: Nicknames, nicknames. Now, on the St. Louis team we have Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know is on third--

Costello: That's what I want to find out. I want you to tell me the names of the fellows on the St. Louis team.

Abbott: I'm telling you. Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know is on third--

Costello: You know the fellows' names?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: Well, then who's playing first?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: I mean the fellow's name on first base.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The fellow playin' first base.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The guy on first base.

Abbott: Who is on first.

Costello: Well, what are you askin' me for?

Abbott: I'm not asking you--I'm telling you. Who is on first.

Costello: I'm asking you--who's on first?

Abbott: That's the man's name.

Costello: That's who's name?

Abbott: Yes.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Costello: When you pay off the first baseman every month, who gets the money?

Abbott: Every dollar of it. And why not, the man's entitled to it.

Costello: Who is?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: So who gets it?

Abbott: Why shouldn't he? Sometimes his wife comes down and collects it.

Costello: Who's wife?

Abbott: Yes. After all, the man earns it.

Costello: Who does?

Abbott: Absolutely.

Costello: Well, all I'm trying to find out is what's the guy's name on first base?

Abbott: Oh, no, no. What is on second base.

Costello: I'm not asking you who's on second.

Abbott: Who's on first!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Costello: St. Louis has a good outfield?

Abbott: Oh, absolutely.

Costello: The left fielder's name?

Abbott: Why.

Costello: I don't know, I just thought I'd ask.

Abbott: Well, I just thought I'd tell you.

Costello: Then tell me who's playing left field?

Abbott: Who's playing first.

Costello: Stay out of the infield! The left fielder's name?

Abbott: Why.

Costello: Because.

Abbott: Oh, he's center field.

Costello: Wait a minute. You got a pitcher on this team?

Abbott: Wouldn't this be a fine team w i t h o u t a pitcher?

Costello: Tell me the pitcher's name.

Abbott: Tomorrow.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Costello: Now, when the guy at bat bunts the ball--me being a good catcher--I want to throw the guy out at first base, so I pick up the ball and throw it to who?

Abbott: Now, that's he first thing you've said right.

Costello: I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

Abbott: Don't get excited. Take it easy.

Costello: I throw the ball to first base, whoever it is grabs the ball, so the guy runs to second. Who picks up the ball and throws it to what. What throws it to I don't know. I don't know throws it back to tomorrow--a triple play.

Abbott: Yeah, it could be.

Costello: Another guy gets up and it's a long ball to center.

Abbott: Because.

Costello: Why? I don't know. And I don't care.

Abbott: What was that?

Costello: I said, I DON'T CARE!

Abbott: Oh, that's our shortstop!

Capitalism is the enemy of both the middle and working class.
Huge profits benefit the wealthy. So to get huge profits costs such as wages have to be kept to a minimum.
The US wealthy successfully made communism, unionism, socialism etc. the enemy.
