Can the Labour party re-invent Socialism ?

There's no real-world pressure to surrender control of the Falklands to anyone - not while we retain several others and France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Denmark, Norway, China, Portugal the Netherlands and the US all have their own overseas territories while Argentina is an insignificant trading partner / global power.

Let's not forget that the green light for the Argentinian military regime's invasion of the islands (and South Georgia) was I believe the Foreign Office agreement to discuss handover. The generalissimos concluded we would not put up a fight if we were nearing agreement to hand ther territory over anyway.

I suspect Corbyn is just doing this for anti-Thatcher political reasons. That's how rooted he is in the leftist thinking of past times. Mind you, some might say that's a quality.

It's rare to agree with you Tomorton,

But as much as I didn't like the late lady Thatcher, she did get two things right; to discipline the trade unions and take back the Falklands.

Monster Raving Loony party linking arms with Labour doesn't seem much like a leap of imagination anymore. (y)

He could introduce laws to make wages/salaries fairer. Just because it's a sh1t job doesn't mean the poor guy at the bottom of the heap has to only get 1/300 th of the fat cat's wage at the top, for a days work.
That would encourage teamwork if the top hog paid 100% tax on anything over 10 times the bottom worker's wage. More money for investment into the business too.

That's the news from couple of weeks ago. I agree, companies not paying a fair living wage should not pay dividends. Otherwise government with income support picks up the tabs.

That is one good idea imo. (y)

Corbyn should be flying over the Panama revelations. I see in Norway all tax records are available to the public. Does seem to keep the crime levels down too.
There should be a law forcing disclosure by anyone with tax haven funds and also by tax havens who want business here. 3rd world dictators must be worried as so they should be. It costs this country about £12bn a year as the rascals avoid their tax obligations.

Agree strongly about Corbyn winning support but feel 3rd world leaders least worried as they are on another level just a peg short of tyrannical legacies in their reign and do anything they like any how.

Usually this is because tyrants manage their countries with an iron fist and often their people are poor and powerless. The strong and powerful are with the tyrants anyhow. So no change there I reckon.

Labour if they are true to their word should get some motions and proposals going so that policy and law changes are passed. If Tories try and avoid these, even over debates Labour can make capital out of it and gain favour with the electorate.

Unlike supporting the unions which is a vote loser, kicking the fat cats and snots can be a big vote winner.

If Labour were serious about reducing inequality then a good idea would be to have all pensions paid into a Govt. fund to be shared out equally on retirement. The size of the fund would determine the amount paid out. Some people are desperate for a bit extra especially when retired while the usual crowd who have prospered will still be ahead.
Might even be enough to turn on some winter heating for many. What is the point of the present system of giving back more to the people who don't need it ?

People might say - why should lazy people benefit from equal pensions if they haven't done much ? Good point. The 100% pension would only be available to those that had full employment during their working life. Those with no employment would in my view still qualify for 25% of the pension. This would give more credence to the Tory lie of " all init together ".

Isn't that basically what National Insurance, introduced in 1911 and improved by the post-war Labour government was? The only problem was/is that our trusty politicians got their hands on the money and spent it leaving future generations to fill the gap. If any financial institution acted like that they would be prosecuted and banned – shame we can't do the same for our glorious leaders.
