An oil sheen about four miles long has appeared in the Gulf of Mexico near the site of the worst oil spill in U.S. history, a Coast Guard spokesman said Thursday.

It was not immediately clear where the oil is coming from, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Tippets. [Although previous oil has been matched as a "dead ringer" to the BP well.]

Coast Guardsmen went to the location after seeing the oil on a satellite image, Tippets said. The response team collected samples and sent them to the Coast Guard Marine Safety Lab in Connecticut for testing.

Outlook on the British Pound:
As our readers know, we watch the charts of the U.S. Dollar carefully from week to week, because opportunities in other currencies are often reflected in an inverse way by the Dollar. Currently, we see the Dollar as being at a crossroads, where there is the possibility that it can bounce from support that's just slightly below the Dollar lows of early September. We will revisit some of the scenarios that could transpire with the Dollar in an upcoming article.

EUROPEAN OUTLOOK

07.42

It is hard to be especially inspired by the indices’ latest action, which are no more than drifting higher. However, the important thing is that the uptrend since June is well intact. Those predicting an imminent top or larger correction are onto a hiding to nothing, in my view.

A request for assistance by the Spanish government could well be the kicker for a new leg upwards in European equities. As Barclays Capital points out, however, there is a risk that Spain delays this action until after regional elections on November 25, which would merit a more cautious stance by investors meanwhile.

I remain a bull, but think there may be better opportunities in US equities and gold right now.

Jungerns the huge options activity in BP now becomes clear

Went short FTSE earlier at 5848 mainly because of resistance at just over 5850, deal currently 4 points down. Done same trade twice this week succesfully but of course this may be the time resistance turns to support.

Must remember to cover for non-farms.
