As @counter_violent says, the human race has been trying to find a 'cure' for the common cold for thousands of years, we can't do it, and if we did it would mutate to a different form that we have no vaccine for. It's been a constant battle between viruses (including the human virus) for billions of years. There will be no one winner just a constant war of mutations.

Did you even read the article? here is the FIRST sentence.
" While vaccine effectiveness (VE) can vary, recent studies show that flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are well-matched to the flu vaccine. "

Reduces the risk when the vaccine is well matched to the virus. So if they get the vaccine wrong that year - no protection.
Even then 40% reduced illness, not cure reduced. 40% will still get sick the other 60% get NO protection.
Every year they have to change the vaccine, as I said it is a constant battle and us humans are not going to wipe out the flu virus.
