Hi All,

Am new around here, would appreciate anyones advice on what kinda things the above are looking for for their graduate program? I presume for the options traders they want maths degree people but what about futures? What is their main method of futures trading, are they mostly scalpers? What is the deal roundabout with the grad program, are people usually if they are good breaking even by the end of the year? Is there any choice in what you trade or do they just say right son sit and trade that! Also do they require people to already have sat exams for FSA registration or is this not required?

Cheers for your time folks.

i used to know sonny a while back. not much contact with him any more.

he sure has grown the business fast and quick and branched into all sorts of areas now.

they are making a lot of money - but who is making it and how?

they are quite aggressive. i will say no more. its down to u at the end of the day, and if other dudes cant cut it in any arcade then that is a reflection on them and the decisions they make - not necessarily the firm. its a decision/trade at the end of the day.

they used to put all new guys on the german interest rate spreads

Many thanks for that, when you say aggressive you mean in how quick they expect you to progress or just as people. I actually interviewed there a while ago for a risk management position that some idiot agency sent me to wrongly, they were not much different to the traders on the fx desk I interned on, I have no problem getting on with these people, compared to my background they are quite tame!

How much fixed income knowledge would they expect you to have? Do they prefer people to come on board pretty green so they can teach them their way of doing things? What about education do they expect straight a's at a level and that?

both!

i only have a little info on the trading there. they have grown so much now - they never even had a risk management divison when i kew him - only 1 risk manager!!!

they took up a lot of the city fall out after the massive redundancies in 2002 time so there will probably be a lot of x bankers/traders/brokers there

It sounds good, I find those people easier to get on with than wet sponges, I can't deal with these wimpy people who want to hold you back, I'm gonna get some research done specific to their operation(although it doesn't seem I can find much!) and get a cv sent off with covering letter. Do you think it's best to send the cv and covering letter then follow up call the next day asking for a meeting to discuss?

Many thanks for your insight by the way, I'm most grateful.

its so very hard to find info on these places except from people who trade there but the couple of reports i had were that sta were better than a lot of the arcades. its really important though that you find someone who can give you a good insight into them before you sign. you wont learn much at the interview i don't think
good luck

Very much like a pop idol contest.....

They take on 30- 40 grads at the start of the month..Gradually weaker traders are eliminated and group is eventually whittled down to 5 -10 by the end of the month..

Further to my earlier question, anyone have any info on Macfutures/Refco Trading services, any tips as to things they look for on cv's and covering letters, I am confident I can do the business at interview, just I don't have a degree so am slightly disadvantaged I would of thought.

If anyone has any info on Saxon Financials, Schneider and Macfutures but doesn't want it in public, please feel free to drop me a pm.

Cheers.

I posted here earlier but it seems to have disappeared, nevermind.

If anyone has any advice about interviewing at Macfutures/Refco or Saxon Financials or any snippets of information about either I would be very grateful to hear. PM's are welcome, I'm just trying to find out as much as I can about their trading strategies, stuff they trade and what they expect from their prospective trainee traders at interview, what their amths test are like etc.

Cheers.

I went for a group interview with STA a couple of years ago. I stood up and told them I wanted to make lots of money. They offered me a job.

Have been having trouble getting my post to show in the right place, anyway here goes.

If anyone has any snippets of info on Schneider, Saxon Financials, Macfutures/Refco, please PM me as I am applying to all these and need to know everything I can about the place, hopefully a bit about their trading strategies, what they expect from you at interview and what qualifications they expect, I don't have a degree so start off at a disadvantage unfortunately but I do have intrnship at IBank on a trading desk. Please feel free to PM.

Cheers.

I don't wanna disclose details because I want some annonymity but it was on a trading desk at a bank that was top 3 in UK in the product. I secured the internship but writing with cv to couple of hundred head traders including some global heads of the product. By the time I did the itnernship there was already a hiring freeze in place and they could not break it. I have since decided that prop is the way to go for me, in IB if you have short term views they want you to make markets, if you wanna prop trade you gotta be medium to long term, it's not easy to find a fit if you are q uick thinker who doesn't wanna be obliged to quote spreads.

You'll be presently suprised to hear that prop trading is scalping extreme short term trading...
looking smallest favourable movement and locking into your profits...

I knew that, that's why I was explaining above that I haven't gone down the IB trading desk route. I wouldn't be applying yet to prop shop's if I didn't know a littel about what they do. I'm looking for more detailed info now.

My advice to you is this and this only. How much is the bro, what is the structure of the rebait, how long is the contract and what is my cut.
