Eckhardt being a very smart guy I think that what he means is that 85% of tops have it (and 15% don't) but it also occurs at other times when the top doesn't happen (maybe even frequently than the genuine tops).

Easy to see examples would be taking divergences on a CCI for example or oversold reversals on William's %R (an early painful lesson in this for me)

I use indicators with my standard error channel lines to see over bought / sold conditions to confirm a change in direction within the trend band. I wouldn't base my trades on them though. Price and trendlines more important for me.
