DJI, SPY & QQQ - all NYSE ETF's. They're not on the current NYSE Threshold Securities List.FetteredChinos said:not shortable?

kriesau said:You may be right. I have an open swing short from 10254 yesterday and I opened another short in the afternoon at 10185. When the futures started climbing this morning I closed out my 10185 at 10165
Really p****d at myself for that so my 1085 short today is in revenge (against whom I'm not sure !)
Done a bit more digging. It seems that the rules for brokers and specialist members of US equities exchanges have to comply with tighter rules (as of Jan this year for a 1 year trial) concerning aquisition of a security for delivery during the required settlement period for which they accept a short sale order. The effect is that, where a broker does not already hold the security 'in stock' so to speak, he may become reluctant to accept a short order if he forsees difficulty balancing his books. In other words, brokers can operate their own 'Threshold Securities Lists' which is probably what happened in this case.FetteredChinos said:cheers Pierre.
