Hi! I am searching for some insight as to which company or platform should I use just starting out in daytrading? I am looking to trade stocks and shorting as well, not futures or minis. I am interested in shopping around and getting some more information on other good companies or platforms to use to do this trading/shorting with. Also, what are some good sites to go to for live virtual trading both for practice and for real purposes? Any advice and insight would be appreciated so please respond to this post as often as possible. Joyce :clover:

Two questions.

1) If you haven't yet done any demo/virtual trading yet how do you know day trading is for you?

2) Will you have at least $25,000 to trade because you will be considered a pattern day trader, which means restrictions.

I am inquiring for my husband who has been overseas for the last 17 months on active duty. He use to do daytrading before he left and found that he did pretty well at it. He will be home the first week of October and he has asked that I post these questions to get some answers so he will have an idea of where to go and where to start all over once he does come home as the market has drastically changed since his last efforts in daytrading. As far as money is concerned, I dont know what he will be using as his start up money which is another reason for posting the question to get an idea of what is usually required. I am new to all of this and as I said, I am just pooling the information to relay to him once he comes home in a few weeks.

He may have Gulf War 2 Syndrome as this whole scenario stinks to high heaven of some sort of mania.

What the hell is a profitable trader doing going to war? That's the first thing I'd be trying to avoid.

I have serious doubts he did if he has to ask these questions. First thing both of you would have to do is understand the risks and commitment required to trade, and then put that in perspective with your situation/objectives.
