As the question of the title states. Obviously we'd all like to make the biggest return possible. But risk profiles and strategies will largely dictate possible ROI.

So REALISTICALLY using your trading strategy, in an average year - what sort of % return would you expect to make? I'll include a few options and if I missed any then feel free to comment. The options are slightly variable size but just trying to get a general idea.

Masq, aren't you at a prop firm ?

Shouldn't we be talking far higher returns then ?

Of course not on a compounding basis, but still ?

Remember TWI who was at a prop firm before moving on to a hedge fund stating about his prop time that:

"Many people think if you make 20-30% a year that you are doing brilliantly well. Many here will make 50-100% per month. It is not a methodology you could apply to large amounts of capital such as fund trading but for individuals accounts it cannot be bettered."

I'm not at a prop firm.

Not sure what number is higher than 100%+ :p

I was just curious at people's expectations. My dad reckons if you can make 20%/year it's a great return. But I have different views on this due to my risk profile. As I said, in the first line about risk profiles/strategies - to a lot of people making >50%/year is not going to happen as it would mean taking on too much risk and they're investing to beat what they can get in a savings account. Other people might aim for many hundreds of %/year.

what TWI said still holds true in terms of returns, although the method he describes would be insane now, and returns are a lot more volatile as well...

Ah sorry bout that mutters to self to get memory update.

Number higher than 100% haha yup got me there

Arabia, yup, makes sense what you're saying.

Out of interest (if you don't mind saying) those that have opted for the 100+% (myself being one of them) are you retail traders or prop traders?
