The Next US President

If the 2 major parties had any sense at all they would find a good looking popular person to head up the party, like an actor. Let the staffers do the hard boring work and take the blame for any foul-ups. The US Presidential system is suited to this more so than European like democracies.

That is because Europe is socialist. The US has two true parties (left and right). The UK has two that are essentially the same (far left and center left).

That shows how little you know about the American legal system. That article does not actually say what he is going to do.

Executive orders have their consequences.

Yes they sure will have consequences for gun swingers. Have a nice day.

Nice digression. You are good at them. You should be a politician. Since you obviously do not know about executive orders, I will tell you a little about them. Whatever he does with any executive orders will become void in 2017 since they essentially passed without congress' consent and not actually law. They exist for the length and breadth of the president's term. His term will be over very soon. That will not be a good for whatever order he signs.

He will most likely try to go through normal channels. I think this is a threat to Congress to get their butts in gear.

Yes, Europe is broadly socialist, although large splits are now in evidence.

The UK however is broadly conservative and has been for a very long time. This is the reason why we will be leaving the failed EU experiment in due course.

As a citizen of the US, do you listen to a word your president says?
In his interview he says he is receiving too many letters from people who have had enough of all this gun nonsense, and that he is going to act. So, best you all fall in line and do as your leader tells you.

You may have missed the homicide chart in the article. Here it is.

Of course you would focus upon the "appeal of emotions" fallacy. I already know that you cannot make a logical argument to save your life.

Get over yourself. It is an article from a left leaning "state run" news agency. This is not North Korea after all although the UK loves their statutory corporations. So much for waste not want not. State run news and state run tv in general. Nationalizing everything sounds like nightmare.

Our leader does not have to take orders from an 89 year grandma.

Arguing ! Who's arguing? I am merely presenting you with the news.

So, what are you all going to do when Obama acts?

Roughly 5 to 1 US-UK homicide rate with 3 in 5 US homicides gun related. What do you have to say about this?

I think it's a national disgrace !

I am guess you are for Hillary Clinton since you are so far to the left.

The country is actually divided into these things called states. Some states like Texas choose to be stubborn and thick-headed. The entire country of England does not have the same crime rate as London and Birmingham right? I actually do not think those numbers are that high when compared to a country with no guns. The population here is 5 times larger and we have guns.

I had this conversation in the USA forum. Why do not continue it in the USA forum?

What I think is disgraceful that a country with no guns still has so many of them. Birmingham is called the gun capital of the country. Your lack of guns has not decreased your crime in general. There is more in London than in Los Angeles. In fact England with its no guns policy has more crime than other first world European nations.

It is interesting that you mention gun crime. The no guns policy has caused other problems in its stead. London has staggering hate crime rates. That is not what I would have expected from a country that boasts acceptance.

We are talking about Obama and his stance on guns. I have no idea why you keep veering off topic. Now if the US has 5 times the population of the UK and we have already established that the homicide rate ratio is approx. 5:1 then 5 times the population means for every One homicide over here, you have approx, twenty five in the US. This is a staggering number.

No wonder Obama is stamping his feet over this little matter.

Pick and choose like always. You only address one thing and it was not the next president.

As I said, I find it even more fascinating that a country with a no guns policy still has plenty of them with Birmingham being the gun capitol of the country. Let us not forget your extremely high level of hate crimes.

Hi hhuisa

Can I just say - again - you are completely 100% wrong - totally incorrect.

I don't actually live in Birmingham - but I spent 3 years in University there many decades ago and have continued to live within 20 miles of the centre since and know the City extremely well.

The actual gun crime centre for the UK the last decade is Nottingham - about an hour north of Birmingham

On average there is about one gun related crime per week - ie 50 per annum

What's that about just 2 days or 2 weeks in LA or NY ??

Also we relate to our crime figures totally different to you lot over in the US

We even include fake / toy pistols as a major incident - In the US you have to be shot at least 5 times and by dying before its even noted as being quite serious

I must repeat Birmingham is probably as safe as your Newport Beach area - In 40+ years of going there regularly I have only ever seen one knife incident. Yes there will always be pick pockets and drunks and fights etc - like anywhere on a Friday or Saturday night - but drive-bys and killings are just rare compared to any large city in the US.

You really are living with a lot of false information - and yes - I have visited the US at least 12 times plus and spent time in Miami/ LA / New York and my favourite place La Jolla - so I know what I am on about.

How many time have you been to London or any part of the UK ??

Hi F

Ever been to Australia.

Hi F

Ever been to Australia.

Oscar

Hi Oscar

Sadly - not yet.

Furthest east I have been from UK is the Maldives and Seychelles and both of those flights were over 13 hrs. The fact that to fly to Australia is over 21 hrs always used to put me off in the past and so I kept saying when I go - I want first class etc. My wife used to be a air hostess for several companies including British Airways and so we always took advantage of any special deals etc but never got offered a really great first class package - but did several times to the US and Canada.

I am hoping during the next 5 years I visit Singapore and Australia - ideally taking in a F1 Grand Prix as well as having a couple of weeks touring around.

Australia is definitely a place I want to visit - its such a shame I have left it so late in my life.

Regards

F

Have you guys watched the movie The Big Short? I think you guys are just upset that we duped you when you bought bad debt from us. We packaged mortgage backed securities from major banks, which were supposedly backed by government and supposedly 95% A-AAA rated. They were really 95% crap. When the American banks realized what was coming they repackaged the remainder of the $%#@ into a CDOs and gave them to you guys in Europe.

Nobody has learned their lesson. We are still making them and you are still buying them.

What do you mean by most? Name them. Sure some banks may have failed. Entire countries in Europe have recession and failed at least by my definition. Greece, Spain, Portugal....

The writing is on the wall for the the Middle East. Get on board with hydrogen technology. The age of oil barons is coming to a close, and all that will be there is sand and desolation.
