Paul

A quick google for it suggests its the Kontiki Secure Delivery Plug In for video / software and audio distribution and a suggestion that it is spyware on another site and found this reference to it

http://www.wheresjames.com/index.php?page=sa&fname=khost.exe&company=Kontiki Inc&show=1

Also worth looking at: http://www.computercops.biz/postp52185.html and

http://amazingtechs.com/index.php?showtopic=13643

which mentions an easy way to remove it in the second post from Bistro

Hope this helps

Stew,

I appreciate your reply, I also did a Google search as well but you have got a bit more than I have so thanks for your help.

I had a few problems a long time ago with ZoneAlarm so I'm a bit biased. I did try it again but I like Sygate now. The latest ZoneAlarm version had some antivirus added which causes conflicts for some users. A majority of people still use ZA, but the previous version.
AVG is still popular as a free AV programme. I had the pro version which let some viruses in on this site, (or, maybe I should say, I let them in)
As I said, I use AntiVir now and I'm happy so far. Regular updates, sometimes twice a day. I don't see a problem with Sygate either, once it's configured.

thanks for the help guys.
i have tried zone alarm with win98 and it was great but i have since changed to xp and picked up a trojan shortly after installing it ! i now have - avg,win patrol, sygate firewall and spybot.

oatman, i have tried security symantec and most ports are stealth two or three are blue but port21 and 80 are showing red and are opened. also trojan horse check reports - port 1025 unused windows service block opened ??? any ideas? can i configure sygate firewall?

thanks

If you look at the first post on this thread, under "Firewalls" you'll see I had identical results to you, but I think the testing on the symantec site is badly flawed - in other words, I think it generates results to encourage you to use their software. Oatman will disagree with me here though... wont you, J?

Personally, I use ZoneAlarm, AntiVir, AdAware, Spybot S&D and WinPatrol.

The Firewall is bulletproof, trust me. AntiVir is the best free AV software around imo, and AdAware & Spybot kick any spyware into touch. WinPatrol is there as a handy "is this supposed to be doing this?" kind-of reminder.

EDIT : Oh, by the way : I also run the standard Windows XP firewall behind ZoneAlarm : it doesnt cause any conflicts, and its also totally bulletproof for inbound connections, but useless for managing outbound traffic - hence ZoneAlarm.

thanks rossored i missed that bit  i had win xp installed only three weeks ago and have had to formatt and reinstall already! i think my browser was hijacked - every time i tried to load one of the financial sites like yahoo etc the browser would shut down however it did let me load other sites ???? so rather than muck about i reinstalled. now maybe a bit over cautious  i never had this trouble with 98 and zone alarm.

thanks again

Rosso, Symantec has me stealthed :cheesy:
aarie,
Here's some port info http://lists.gpick.com/portlist/portlist.htm
Download SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/index.html
Check your ports, DCOM and UnPlug n Pray. http://grc.com/default.htm
Sygate has a forum and test as well.

Also, just looking back, have you got Ad-aware?
.....and make sure your Windows Critical Updates are current. 5 new ones the other day.

Well done Rosso, excellent thread. Not much to add, except I would echo oatman's recommendation of SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster (add links/references in the main post?) - I run these in conjunction with Zone Alarm, Avast and Ad-Aware. If nothing else, anybody who connects to the internet from a Windows PC - especially non-dialup users - should have an effective firewall: it really is essential.

BTW the site on the link for AV software comparison doesn't seem to have any such information - does anyone know of another?

Alex

I've been keeping a look out for some comparison tests but there doesn't seem to be anything that's independent or "scientific" enough.

Windows Critical update

AVG and other antivirus

I recently posted on PcPitstop http://pcpitstop.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=59760 that there seemed to be more posts lately from people using AVG getting viruses etc which were not being cleaned. AVG is very popular, but I had my doubts after our "Hitler" :devilish: poster got into this forum and I copped a couple of nasties. I switched to AntiVir after that.
I've been trying to find some comparisons of antivirus programmes but all reports fail to compare properly. Out of all this someone posted this link http://www.suggestafix.com/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=11185 which I have seen before but I lost it
Just thought some of you might be interested ;)

cheers Oaty ;) Norton is up for renewal, so think I'll now take a peek at the top 2 recommends on his hit list!!...good stuff!

Zone Alarm - new update and Norton

I run Norton AV and Zone Alarm (free version) and a little while ago when I updated to ZA Version 50_590 it caused a conflict with Norton when scanning e-mails so I uninstalled and reverted to the older ZA version 45_594. I think there was a mention in a thread here but I cannot find it right now. It was also discussed on PcPitstop forums.

Now there is a newer Zone Alarm V51_011. Any idea if this problem has been resolved?
