Because a "yes" or a "no" would have been direct. A "why" is defensive.

If that's the best side-step you're capable of then you're tenure is very limited.

My reasons are obvious or if they're not, ask someone who's been around the site for a while....

One of your very first decisions is to reinstate a member who admits to obtaining images of child pornography and publishing them on this site.

Child sexual abuse is no laughing matter; it is a deplorable criminal act which should not be so easily forgotten.

This will be reported back to the Metropolitan Police child pornography watchdog unit and the Internet Watch Foundation as T2W shows no knowledge of moral code or conduct.

Lurkerlurker, I am certain every right-minded person would unequivocally agree with you - such illegal material on a public forum, would necessitate an immediate and irrevocable ban. I can assure you that up until this time NO admin staff were aware of any such allegations, but if true, then we'll have no hesitation in acting accordingly. Due to the seriousness of this accusation; we have no choice but to suspend the member in question, with immediate effect, until the facts can be ascertained.

You might also consider the case of "everyonerich" who on two occasions uploaded to t2w a pdf of a terrorist bomb making manual.
I sent a "bad post" report on the first occasion and his pdf was deleted. He was not banned.
The second time he uploaded the manual I consulted someone who knows about such things and I was within seconds of reporting "everyonerich" to MI5 when I logged on and found one of the mods had deleted his post.
That type of behaviour is no joke and is worthy of a permanent ban in my humble opinion.

I would agree that any member that chooses to post anything illegal to a forum; should expect an immediate and permanent ban. Anything less could be construed as condoning such behaviour and this would surely be the wrong message to send out to the community.

to be fair to everyonrich (not that he's a great loss ) the so called terrorist bomb making manual was essentially just a text file that's been being distributed for about twenty years since the days of BBSes and is far more likely to kill someone following the recipes in it than any innocent bystander. Although I understand it's still illegal to possess, but that says more about our ridiculous laws than the file itself, per se. Under the right circumstances a London Underground Map (for example) is illegal under these laws...

Will the 'Community Manager' role and the individual currently holding this position then be reviewed in the light of their seriously negligent behaviour over these last few days? Putting the entire site, and you personally Paul, at risk of unwittingly committing a criminal offence is not a trivial matter. The fact that their lack of background or knowledge of the site or its members is likely directly the reason for this is of primarily a concern only in assessing your lack of judgement in assigning someone who has not come up through the ranks to this role. But the fact they were given immediate and full powers and were able to implement their whim without constraint or any apparent system of checks or balance placed the site in jeopardy and you personally liable for a potentially criminal offence. I think it is a little late for suggesting a ‘hands-off, look & listen’ probationary period and the immediate removal of the ‘Community Manager’ is called for.

Note I said owned not run as that is left to the mods who are supposed to be into trading and any one would think they were accomplished in some way which is the biggest joke of all. They are so out of touch with reality its untrue mainly because their average age is 80 +!

Clearly the owner has little interest in making this an actual reasourse an is more interested in making money of the back of the advertising that's all over the place. Mods are not sought out and interviewd as such it more of a case of who wants to do it and the advisers thing was / is a totall joke.

Is it anywonder that most decent traders with depth of knowledge have gone elsewhere or the ones who haven't take the site for what it is a totally joke and treat it as such. None of this should really come as much of a supprise. My advise to any newbies arriving at this site is leave now asap and go spend some time at the screen with one method and you will smoke most of the members here when it comes to the makets. If you want long drawn out egotistical twaddle from a buch of old idiots then hang around and drink your fill.

Quite where the appointment of a comunity manager fits in I don't know, what is the job description? Clearly the owner has more important things to do than do anything about this mess. It is only a matter of time before other revenue streams are introduced (the subscription) and why not as most of the mugs on here will pay up.

Ooooh! I am glad I'm not modding anymore - in my ancient state it had become so difficult to see the screen and to get my poor old rheumy fingers to stop shaking enough to hit the right keys. Good job I've got a voice activated take profit button that can recognise the feeble, wheezy croak I can just manage.

The site's only ever as good as its members. If you want to post crap, it'll be crap.

I agree with jon. And while those other posters may have valid views to air, I’d like to re-focus on this thread’s topic which is the appointment of a ‘Community Manager’ with full admin privs.

She has already shown herself to lack sufficient skills and experience to avoid completely undermining the mods (who don’t get paid for their efforts and time) and create a potentially legally damaging situation for her boss and the site generally. When asked to provide a little personal background she became very defensive. Why should we accept this from someone effectively put in charge of us, but not allow this squirming off the hook from any other party on this site who may, or may not, have a vested interest or relationship for which it is appropriate the membership have an awareness?

While Sharky may not enjoy majority support from the membership, it is his site and he can do as he wishes, as he’s already shown. While ignoring the resource of his Advisors, he seems to have gone for the ‘Community Manager’ thing in a big way (perhaps it’s the latest fad for on-line BBs). The logic of which is as insane as it is obvious. Why would you turn away the FREE advice from those who REALLY use the site and have an open an honest interest (sufficient to freely volunteer) in preserving and enhancing its quality and have the requisite experience and knowledge of the site, its members and trading itself to make something of true value - both to the members in an interest and educational way, and to Sharky’s outright commercial interests, in favour of someone who has none of those qualities and clearly no experience or sufficient intelligence to be exercising the privs she has been given without any training or mentoring or apparent guidance.

That it went bad from the start is merely a measure of Sharky’s, until fairly recently, complete lack of time and interest invested in the site and any awareness of its members and their wishes. Should he decide to continue along those lines and fail to recognise the error of this appointment then it becomes something of quite a different nature and one which sends a clear message to all those that really do have the site’s best interests at heart.

I don't get it. It's a board where you can ask questions, share ideas, or sit in the background and just read. What the owners do and what their objectives are just doesn't float my boat in the way it seems to do for others. How poeple make such a fuss about the most trivial things is (like many things beyond me.
