It seems to me, from my observers spot over here, that Scotland and Wales was fairly free of the riots. Is that a fact and, if so, is it due to a different way of thinking and attitude?

I remember how bad Glasgow used to be--the Gorbals and all the rest of it, and I can't imagine the delinquent community, there, taking a back seat in the events of the past week.

I. also, heard that Scots police were sent down to help in English trouble spots, so they must have been under less stress at home.

On second thoughts, though, Newcastle, Southampton, etc. were, also, relatively free of trouble.

I have a funny feeling that I might be moving this thread to the jokes and humour forum in a day or two!
;)

Well, they get much better benefits etc as England subsidises them massively. So they've got less to complain about. Plus the weather's worse.

It's probably only a matter of time. When the real economic depression sets in next winter/year the economic underclasses will realise they have been duped by the politicians and so-called "responsible" members of our society. (the employed/middle class rioters this week are just freeloaders and not the real people who will be affected by the coming downturn)

After the sanctimonious outpourings of our MPs in their parliamentary debate this week it's enough to make you puke! It's taken 30 years plus to badly bring up a couple of generations and now we see the result. We'll restore some law & order with brute force and harsh measures - that's what they've done in LA but just look at their Society, is that we want?

There's no doubt that the rioters' behaviour was unacceptable and must be treated harshly to preserve law & order but I'm not convinced the politicians have "got it". It's all a bit reminiscent of the old-type father who gave his son a "belting" without understanding the cause of the problem. Until we get decency, honesty and integrity in all our public and leader-type figures I don't see much hope of true improvement.

I think this guy has a good handle on it:

Hey? What are you talking about?

Anyway, I can explain it. In Scotland* they're probably too f***ed up on smack to riot. The few that aren't are too busy dealing smack, or possibly eating deep-fried Mars Bars and complaining about England. Anyway, where your average male life expectancy is lower than Bangladesh, you don't have a lot of time for rioting.

Wales? I don't know. Probably too busy bumming sheep and complaining about England. Or maybe the guy that can read the monthly carrier-pigeon news delivery has lost his glasses?

The riots made me proud to be English - all those motivated young people, selflessly protesting in order to secure political change, being proactive in taking their taxes back, and showing "da fedz / da rich / da politishans, yeah / etc that they can do wot they want innit bruv safe yeah brap brap.

*NB Make sure you call Scottish people "The Scotch" - they hate being called anything else.

I always used to laugh at an expression used by a lady who used to work for us.

"Estamos arreglados"

It's not so funny in English but it means that everything has been arranged for us. She used to mutter it under her breath every time she read or heard the news.

Scotch comes out of a bottle. A Scot is one of those Mel Gibson types, with hairy legs, no knickers and long fangs, who used to come over the border and put our fair English maids in the family way.

In fact, they still do.

There was a 99% probability that the forum wits like you would pop up making comments like this - hence my post.

Article in the Times today relating to riots whereby the Welsh attacked Jewish businesses in 1911. Authorities tried to suppress details. I dont think shooting a few would stop future riots but it would deplete the current population of uneconomic dependent population:whistling
Tv for sale -slightly dented:innocent:

The Welsh bumming Sheep? Jeez mate, you are so freaking funny my sides are hurting.
It's really great to know that this forum has posters like you who think outside the box and come up with these super original, witty remarks.

wales is mainly set in a rural area the population of the individual valleys is relatively small the major city swansea cardiff and newport are very cosmopolitan and it s only in certain parts of these cities that a problem is likely to exsit

with regards to sheep shagging well it well worth a go and they taste good too perhaps you should try them one day

and with regards to riots making people proud then you should be ashamed of that comment people absolutely have the right to protest but they don t have the right to distoy the livelyhoods of decent people who are already working hard to survive in an appauling economic enviroment where the small buisness owners suffers becuase of goverment policy our high taxes fuel costs etc etc all add s to an emotional strain on people do you realise that more men commit suicide than women.
i myself are fed up to the back teeth of spoungeing people who work on the fiddle don t contrabute to our tax system and flease what they can from our benefits system.

but back to the question why did we not suffer riots we people in wales apart from the odd few are civilized and we like to think that it does nt matter what part of the world anyone is from contrabute and be a part of society and you will be welcome here in wales it s a beatiful place might be worth you trying it someday great coast lines beutiful mountains if your a rammbler
BE a part of society and contabute it will make the world a better place

Yes Welshguy. I'm from Cardiff, and I know Wales is a nice place. There were no riots here, I think people here have more respect for their City and didnt want to smash it to bits.
My initial post was drenched in sarcasm. I think it's time for the Anglo Saxon invaders to come up with something new (and give the Welsh their land back! sod off back to Germany!)

The Scottish only riot when you allow them down to England for football once every 30 years. They've more wit than to wreck their own stuff. When you allowed them down in the 70s they wrecked your goalposts and tore up the turf at Wembley. The next time they wrecked Manchester, I suppose sometime around 2025 they'll be back. Until then they will have the good sense not to riot at home.
