Greece may exit the Euro ?

I think that an important question that Brussels is asking itself is

"What if Greece does leave the Eurozone and does well, instead of getting worse?

Brussels wants Greece down and out as an example of what can happen to anyone else. To leave and prosper would be a disaster.

Nevertheless, they are spending our money like a man with holes in his pockets. It cannot be allowed to continue.

Calm down - calm down...

We are talking about Greece dropping the ECU not leaving the EURO-dream

Greece is teaching Brussels a good lesson in democracy. Let's all learn from it.

Cameron has called a referendum too and UK doesn't even have the ECU. So what's he going to do if he doesn't get a better deal - leave the common market?

Much ado about nothing.

Nice weather for a good stroll and few beers.

Need to read up on what the market thinks of it all and how it will respond

Don't panic - Cpl Jones

If the politicians ( Greek and Brussels ) had at least 1 working brain cell between them this problem would never have happened.

Much ado about nothing? How is Greece teaching anyone anything, except how not to run a country. This is not a lesson in democracy. If a child (Greece) wants to stand on the edge of a cliff, the parent (Europe) can't let them fall to their death just because they don't know any better. LIke most children, Greece thinks they are teaching the rest of the world a lesson, but it is they who will be schooled like the misbehaving child they are.

Agree, the big lesson is, never to trust socialists and big headed leftists!
Poor Greeks have taken this educational burden very seriously.
Unfortunately on both sides of the Atlantic this lesson is not that well received, although the time is slowly approaching as this divorce from reality cannot last for ever.:(

It's clear they want out.

Greece would prefer to default, have the debt written off and start afresh with the Drachma and the EU common market.

Big question now is how much of a hair cut is on the table. How will Greece pay back the debt?

Even a BIGGER question whether they do well or not... how will those decisions reflect on remaining countries with debt; Italy, Spain, France, Portugal n all?

Ooooohhhhhh Betty I think someone's done a whooppsieeee :-0

It is possible that Greece will be better off outside of the Euro-zone, their pensioners wont, but that is life. Wander if Goldman Sachs will return the fees for badly cooked books while making sure the Greece's Euro entry was good and proper? That is a story in itself:LOL:
Actually they might also be better off outside of the EU, especially in its present form, a seven headed dragon of socialistic nonsense spitting venom in every direction.
Interesting reaction of the finance ministers,

Janis is still smiling, does he know more that the rest?
He must have his sandwiches well prepared in his rucksack, he will not go without supper again.:LOL::)
Feel sorry for the ordinary Greek people, then I also feel sorry for the rest of hard working people in the rest of Europe condemned to the continuous flow of harmful stupidities flowing from Brussels.
By the way, what has happened to the European parlament?
They seem to be completely silent and sidetracked, the Brussels junta takes care of everything, like the Italian "cosa nostra" principle.

If they weren't fine with the EU's help, how will they be fine without it? They have shown they cannot be trusted to govern themselves properly. The IMF and ECB have been promised repeatedly by Greece that they would raise taxes and they still haven't and will not. What would the Iron Lady do if she was in power in the UK today?

I'm sure Greece would be better outside than in. Much like the UK.

Happy with the common market. Simply that the single currency in its current state in the political union is flawed.

I also think the EU has expanded too fast taking in too many small countries.

I like the single currency too but it needs more work. It needs to integrate fiscal policies as well as the monetary side. Leaving it up to countries with many politicians to decide on spending plans is simply foolish.

Expecting honesty and integrity from a politician must be like extracting blood from a stone.

The EU vision right now needs to shrink and consolidate then move forwards again. Take the core principals. Amend weak areas. Move forward. (y)

Haha maybe so and maybe not.

Hope you live long enough to see it old boy (y)

Now might be a good time to raise your the end of the EU thread from the ashes again

The queuing at banks in Athens has begun. A bailout extension has been refused to Greece. Dieu merci!

tough week ahead for the eurozone...........traders will need to keep a level head ..........

Really if Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and others want to retain their diminishing pride and independence then in my view they should all leave the Euro and re-introduce their previous currencies.
The Euro is dominated by Germany for Germany. The rest are just so much fodder for the German machine. The longer they delay the more they will be sucked in. What's the current buzz word in the corridors of power in Europe at the moment ? Centralisation isn't it ? Leave it too long and they might as well start learning German.

(n)

The EU could easily revert back to a successful trading area that it was meant to be in the first place. Scrap the 2 yes 2 Parliament complexes ( I think they have finally worked out the shape of the perfect banana, or have they ? ), a Supreme Court that doesn't know what it's on about and subsidising French farmers. The French can subsidise their own farmers.

Now that's an interesting picture.

Notice that the queue's are made up largely of women.
This should tell you something......women are only interested in money.....so if it comes down to a choice of toughing it out, or running off with the money....now you know the answer !!!!!!

The architects of the EU like Trichet should be put on trial for gross incompetence.
Oh but that is not a crime I hear some bleat.
Well if The Supreme Court had any sense it bl00dy well should be.
