QUOTE=Jneverlands]I would like to update you on a new scam which is going on as we speak. I foolishly bought shares in Echo from Argus Global which they then sold and bought shares on Pharma holding (without permission) I have 3000 shares at $5 per share. I have recently been contacted by a John Hardy form Oceanic Investment Group Chicago. They have sent me a contract offering to sell my shares which have now quadrupled to 12000, for $12.50. The only problem is the shares are restricted so I have to send 98 cents per share that almost $12000, oh but it's refundable, to release them then they will send me $150,000.00
How can I stop other people getting conned?

thanks[/QUOTE]

Do not send these people any more money! it is possible to get a restriction lifted yourself, for free, or at least almost free, no-where near 98c per share, its been a while since i did it, but there used to be advice on www.freeedgar.com failing that, go to the sec website, there will be instructions there as to how to go about it.
Good luck, see you in your forum on yahoo.

Amateur - Last week pump & Dump - this week churn & burn

Hi fellow sufferers,

I'm not at home most days but inspite of that I got THREE phone calls on the one day I had off this week.

The South African sounding bloke from "Lion......" phoned, ready with his hot tip.
(I suggested he should check himself out on the official Governmet web site - I don't think he will phone again).

Got two more calls pushing commodity trading one from Spain and one supposedly from Florida (it appeared to be a USA phone number). The first matched the pusher-is-not-the -broker profile highlighted above, so I asked how he earned his commission (very evasive but I expect a call back). The "Florida" pusher could not supply a "normal commercial" email address, just some two bit @aol.com address - very reassuring. I'm not expecting a call back.

Two interesting items on the radio:

1. The penny stock merchants who build up a stake in a struggling company, then create a glowing future for it and pump out the story, now by sending millions of Emails as well as cold calling, should make at least 6 percent in a week as the buying pressure raises the price.
They push, you get dumped - unless it is your initial trade, the sprat to catch the macerel.
As an example of what might be at best pump&dump, I have copied below an example of the headings to an email that arrived in one of my "spam" email inboxes. Interestingly the email name is NOT my email account, presumably someone knows how to fiddle the underlying address AND I cannot capture the text (without making a .jpg of the screen image) and of course the return address does not exist.

2. Someone who bought a fake master painting explained that if the scammer can create speed, need & greed he is home and dry.

Be warned,

Harry.

[ If you cannot stand the suspense the plugged stock is West Excelsior Ent
OTC: WEXE.PK
$1.02 (+18% in 24 Hrs) Hopes of Mexican Mining Contract]

I expect somewhere a so called broker will be pushing the small "quoted" company to get rid of the bundle of shares he has already purchased.
"Where there is a tip there is a tap" as we Londoner's used to say.

=======================================================================

I one hundred percent support your attempts to go after scammers BUT perhaps yahoo is not the best vehicle:

I have just gone through the stretched out process of becoming a member of yahoo only to find that only postings 5 & 6 of your pressure group are available and no further entries can be added. Perhaps somewhere in the terms and conditions there is something saying you are not allowed to set up a pressure group ? If not how about a pressure group against cencorship by lilly livered yahoo ?

Will Motleyfool allow you to collect victims ? Perhaps "Which?" will take up your case ?
(But having been kicked out of Switzerland & Nevis, I fear most of your money has gone to hell).

Re "AGE" - see my posting, made a week ago above, of the near miss I had, starting with a call last Easter.

Good luck,

Harry

Anyone able to tell me what regulation 'S' shares are ?

Bactrol Shares

Hi

I wondered if you had the presentation that Bactrol sent you as i am investigating this company myself and would like to know what names thay are supposedly using as references/research technicians from a London University in their trials. Any info would be much appreciated,

For the Attention of IANPETHER

Saw your posting on Bactrol. I have unfortunately "invested" in Bactrol via an outfit by the name of Devere Proprietary Broking and am trying to track my money down.
Were you able to gather any information on this and would you be prepared to share with me ?
Thanks for your help

Guys I really am sorry for your losses but don't think you're going to get anywhere trying to track these people down ,they're highly sophisticated and have immense money behind them. They are also located n countries where you can't trust the local police/fraud squad and anyway the scammers would likely pay them off, or are already doing so as a 'license' to operate.

THE only way of getting any action is to go after the weakest link which is the banks they do business with. Create hell for the banks and their regulators to 'aiding and abetting' criminal fraud - Know your client and his business etc is a fundamental procedure of banking.

Setup a website, publicise your problems, expose the banks role in all of this, write to every financial journalist you can find and tell them about the website because it makes good news. It would also be a good idea on the website to have a page or 2 'How you can stop yourself being scammed' and 'warning signs you MUST be aware of etc', make it a little bit educational as well.

I'm really sorry for the guys who have sent and lost money to these conmen. This post is not for them, though, but for the others who may be coming behind them.

I do not understand how one can get into a conversation with strangers on the phone. It is beyond my comprehension. Even the telephone company girl, calling to try to get me to sign up for a better contract- for more money, naturally- gets told to send the details through the post. What is it, that makes it so difficult to hang up on sales pitches? It's easier, to my mind, than getting rid of them when they are face to face.

Cold callers? HANG UP!

IS CAPITAL SPREADS A BOILER ROOM SCAM - MARKET MAKER?

spotted that on nov 6 2006 at 9am there was a HUGE spike down on the EUR/CHF, I have not seen this spike down anywhere else on any other charting package!!!! doubtless lots of traders would have lost money as the trend was obviously up on other platforms

Difficult to tell, post the web address, That way its possible to look alittle closer, just putting capital spreads in google returns an awfully large number of hits! I had a look at www.capitalspreads.com which appears to be linked to a sports book (not good) also, the other thing to think about is leverage (or gearing) its rarely explained that well, and can result in huge losses to even experienced investors. I too cannot find the down spike that you mention, but as i said, post more info, and i will look further.
Good luck.

No Cap Spreads is a fully regulated UK firm.

Maybe the charting software kicked out some bad ticks on that day.

I view the Spread betting firms as like the banks, they're all as good and as bad as each other. (Legal) type tricks are always being played by both sides (the companies and their clients) because money is involved. But you can be sure that 99% of regulated firms are pretty honest, well, as honest as you need to be in the City of London :)

The only FSA firm that seems to have question mark after question mark regarding it is Pacific Continental. Tony Heathrington, a financial journalist for the Mail on Sunday has been reporting horrible things about how they operate. Wouldn't be surprised if the FSA does something about them.

I think I have been hit by a boiler room scam which came from Hydrogain Technologies in March 2006. Can anybody confirm this is indeed a bogus scam company and that I will have lost my investment in their shares? Are there links to Costa Rica? Can the company directors be prosecuted? Whay is the website still active?

The above are some details on hydrogain, along with a couple of links that should answer your question. As to what to do about it, firstly, did you buy the stock directly from hydrogain, or from a "broker", it makes a very large difference, post a little more detail if you can.

Re Blackwell Capitol Group

I was telephoned by the Blackwell Capital Group wanting me to invest £1500 in Pantera buying in at 12p per share and they assured me I would be able to sell before this Christmas at no less than 70p per share. Where do they get our details from?

Latest Boiler Room shares I have been offered (invest today at 0.98c for a 400% return within a month or two apparently!!!) are for a company called West Excelsior Enterprises. The basis of this "tip" is that they have retained the services of a mining consultancy firm. Bearing in mind they are an exploration company this is hardly supprising and certainly not indicative of a big rise. Beware of offers on these shares...

Hello all

Im new to all this so please forgive my ignorance if this has been talked about previously.

Has anyone ever had any dealings with a Investment Consultant company called Charles Hirch?? If anyone has had experiences with them (good or bad) could thye please let me know asap

Thanks

ATS Specialists

Like you, I am also an ATS Specialists share holder - still not sure whether I am in a scam or on to a good thing.

Been with Oxbridge for a year now, and they seem to operate professionally.

Have checked out ATS Specialists best I can as well; some of the companies they list as their clients do in turn name ATS as their representative/partner and the "big names" joins their Advisory Board also have a history one can find on the web.

Anyone have any solid proof one way or another?

Some further boiler rooms I have received in the last couple of days:

Walter Greenwood (email: [email protected]) offering shares in Los Vegas Central Reservations Corp (LVCC). He is claiming insider knowledge of a 300% share price rise.

Sol Lott (email: [email protected]) offering shares in Chef Selections Inc (CFSC). Apparently he is forecasting a 600% rise in a week (wow!!!).

And the West Excelsior Enterprises shares I have listed above were offered by a company calling themselves STRUM, however their email address is [email protected].

These shares appear to be limited issues of restricted shares!!

And, if anyone is interested, oversys.com is a language translation company based in the South of France and weatherchem.com manufacter a fine range of lids for sealing food packets!!!! Not high on my list of financial experts....

BE WARNED. Some the people predicting these huge returns have been given 1 million free shares by the company. Number may vary. So it is in their interest to create a demand. They will even invest in the company themselves to push up the price and then when outsiders see this and jump on in ( hopefully causing a frenzy). They will pull out. Often causing the company to float at its price before falling back down in price because there was no real substance to the price pressure. One such company I was receiving unsolicited "alert" emails about was LITL it jumped from 90 cent to 1.45 over a short period of time about a month a go. I think it has fallen to 1.15 recently [figure not precise - but go to yahoo and check it out] and it was still been pushed by email (probably by the people who got caught the first time and are trying to regain their losses).

You never hear anyone questioning Barclays stockbrokers, E*Trade or IG Index do you?
