automated trading/algorithmic trading forum?

T2W doesn't seem to really have much content focused on systematic/programmatic trading. What are the chances of an automated trading/algorithmic trading forum or maybe a sub-forum in 'specialists corner'?

I would be up for that. There are some threads in techies corner. The main problem I see, though, is how to pitch it. Do you keep it at a generalised level so that it has some relevance whatever automated trading system is used, but then suffers from a level of detail readers might want. Or do you include sub-forums for specific trading systems so that you can get down to code level etc. It it is the latter then most trading system vendors have their own forums (or fora if you prefer :smart🙂.

My particular interest and expertise is Tradestation and Object Oriented Easy Language.

Great to have a positive response so quickly (only way it could be bettered would be to have it from a Mod!)

I don't think separate forums is a good idea unless some actual traction develops - just _1_ forum would be a good start.

And I also don't think we need to start posting content on this current thread until, yes again, some traction develops.

I for one am not particularly keen on a forum whereby people post questions similar to;

• "I have a strategy, can somebody automate it for me?"
• "I want to create a trading bot but I can't program whatsoever - where do I start?"

I was more thinking along the lines of;

• Broker API listings/reviews/bugs/feedback
• Suggested algo learning material ie. blogs, books, podcasts, etc..
• "how do I pattern match in Python/C#/VB.NET/etc?"
• "Where do I get EOD/tick data from?"
• "How do I tweak this indicator in MT4/TradeStation/etc?"

like the idea too--I use Mql4 and learning VTS software to generate code. I trade FX live ad interested in backtesting as well as EA's.

I would love to see a forum on automated trading/algorithmic trading. The question is whether there are enough program traders here on T2W to support such a forum. I know there are a few, but not many, I think. For now, it's probably best to post on the "Trading Systems" forum.

My main bugbear with the existing "Trading Systems" forum is that it attracts traders who are either looking for a magical "forex trading system/ea" to get rich quick or have already bought some magical "forex trading system/ea" and come to complain it isn't working.

I want the forum to be more for coders who wish to trade, rather than traders who want to code.

IN my experience most (not all) manual traders don't understand or trust coded applications. most (not all) coders are too focused on coding as an end rather than means. Open threads seldom gain any traction. I would recommend forming a smallish closed working group by invitation.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, apologies for the delay in replying - small matter of becoming a dad 😀

So, I'm happy to facilitate, either by creating a new public forum, or a specialist' corner forum. But just to be totally honest, there needs to be traction behind it otherwise it'll sit there empty, as new forums have done so many times in the past. Particularly private forums, in my experience, very very few make it past a few weeks or months.

If you want to create a few threads in the existing Trading Systems, and then later I can move these to a new forum, that's also an option. Over to you...

absolutely correct--I have professional experience in making groups work-even online! needs enough structure and focus to provide value that continues to bring a core group together--not very possible in a public forum--formats like meetup or yahoo group much better platform--can talk on the phone if yo are interested
