Hi All

Once again, an unsolicited call allegedly from Tokyo.

This time, a company called "Thomas Moore Global" who brought ABB at $14.60 and think it's going up to $20.

They want me to buy 2000 of these at the current price $15 & then some. When asked why they don't just keep them, they told me that would be 'insider trading'

A look at their web site - Thomas Moore & whois info, shows it was created in 2008.

I told him I could find absolutely no info about this company on the web & he said "so you've found nothing negative about us, then ?". LOL !!

I had a long chat with the guy about why I don't buy stuff from strangers on the phone, about that fact that it's nice to hear a boiler room touting blue chip stocks instead of OTC BB stocks and that onus of proof is on him to show they are legit. He did try very hard, bless him but at the end of the day couldn't stop his spiel even when told I err on the side of caution in these things & that even if I believed him, I wouldn't be interested in it.

But lets face it - if the 'inside info' about some massive China deal is something I believed in, then I'd just go & place the trade myself.

Beware people.

Cheers

Pete

handled like pro as far as I can see Pedro. I can just see you like Giovanni Ribisi when the guy tries to sell him a subscription to the New York Times.

I too received a call from ThomasMoore, Tokyo a day ago. Same thing, about this massive chinese deal with ABB ltd. This guy who calls himself Steven Barr, a senior portfolio manager was pretty persistent after telling him I wasn't interested.

Suspecting a scam, I continued to play along.

Apparently, he is German. Well half German when I questioned his nationality (German names doesn't sound like that as far as I am concerned)...he also refused to give me his personal contact number, stating company policy as the reason. Only gave me his company general number, doesn't even have an extension number.

And then, there is this other guy supposedly the allocations officer, something Earl .... funny thing is that you have to TT or wire money online to them for opening an account with them before they will give you any information about themselves.

Found out that this company has been recently added to the list of "unlicenced overseas cold callers" in Australia, which is illegal.

Amazon.com: The Wolf of Wall Street: Jordan Belfort: Books

Must read for anyone looking to get into the bizz.

For the more visually inclined this will do the trick as well:

IMG movies: Boiler Room (2000)

What with there being an endless supply of gullible peeps around starting your very own boiler room can be a thoroughly rewarding and lucrative career.

Might be an idea though to brush up on extradition practises before you open shop.

Not that I see any big difference in the so-called structured products banks sell under the guise of legitimacy to what the Thomas Moores from Tokyo have on offer.

Buy a call... Just in case.

I am afraid that I also made a similar mistake.

I own, (according to Thomas Moore), 310,000 shares in HTE, (HARVEST ENERGY TRUST
(NYSE: HTE), they have told me that a full "block" of shares is 500,000.

The remaining 190,000 share is held by Thomas Moore. (they claim they bought out the original owner earlier this week)

Thomas Moore tell me that the selling of the full block of shares is not be allowed.(because I do not own the full 100%)

Is there any reason why Thomas Moore can not sell the block of shares of HTE (500,000).

Any advice would be appreciated.

I suspect the bottom line is that they have stolen your money and will shortly disappear. They were never authorised to sell you shares in the first place. They are probably stringing you along to set you up for another scam like paying an advance fee to sell them or derestrict them or whatever other story they can think up. Maybe in your case they are going to offer to sell you their shares. Don't give them any more money because they will steal that too.

They are also on the Fido warning list in Australia

Hi Tiancu,
Friends of mine were taken in by the T Moore scam and sent quite a substantial amount of money to them. I am trying to track down people who have been caught as well - we are looking at options of how to pursue this through legal channels - can we swap information and maybe combine resources ?
Regards

I was called today for the second time to my mobile in China, from a guy with what I believe to be a Dutch accent, saying he is with Thomas Moore in Tokyo. He said, "I called you last time and if you had listened to our advice you would have made 35% on that investment. Get a pen because I have more infomation for you this time." I told him I was in a meeting and not interested and hung up. It was the same voice as a few months back. Steer clear of these guys.
Cheers.

I have sympathy for those that have lost money, but try to remember - these types of calls are always, always, always a scam.

End of story.

Thanks ... My friend has contacted "Operation Archway" as well as several other police forces. He has also taken legal advice both in Belgium and in Tokyo.

Very sorry to say I am in the trap as well. I just reported to Melbourne police today for their investigation. I also contacted Australian Embassy in Tokyo; however, they couldn't do any help and we must report to the police locally.

I am also seeking other legal services. Do you mind sharing the lawyer/legal service provider in Tokyo?

thanks and good luck all...
