Weekend Idle Chatter about trading or whatever.

yacarob,
Gatso Gordon's tanks are already on the lawns of Number 10 and all the bibles in England will have no effect........two crossed arms are supposed to keep the devil at bay, though.

Is there anyone apart from Sarah who actually likes him?
The Scots are really canny - sending him away to Westminster was a master stroke.

Just a thought Mr C but isn't this how Maggie used to behave ?

Maggie was noisier. She had balls so, when she dropped a clanger everyone knew about it because, as the others didn''t have any, they didn't recognise the sound. I wonder how Dennis managed her?

We have no vote on who will be our next PM.
And we lecture others on democracy...........

Cast your ineffectual vote here:

At least there you can say whether you want him or not.............then check out the results........

I'm not sure what the Labour party rules are on electing a new leader but doesn't the entire party membership have to vote on it. Unlike the Conservatives where only the Tory MP's get to vote.

Why does everyone seem to think it's going to be Gordon Brown. Seems just a bit too obvious to me.

If it was a 2 horse race between Gordon and someone else I think it might be a good outside bet to back his opponent.

I quite like the idea of Maggies spitting image puppet on the other side of the dispatch box, with Tebbs siting beside her.

Could be fun.

The Labour Party, in fact, most socialist parties--I'm thinking of Spain, especially,too--- are as close as one can get when it comes to party loyalty. Take a look at Kinnock. He lost an election for them and he is still there, in Brussels and as bright as a penny. The same can be said of the Catalan Borrell, who was nominated for president of the PSOE and had to resign the nomination because of connections with two tax inspectors accused of corruption. He is in Brussels, too. It is one big club and disloyalty is the biggest crime that you can commit. So I am not surprised if Brown is hard to shift.

Perhaps we could export Gordon to Zimbabwe in return for all the billions of taxpayers money, idiots like him gave that awful monkey Mugabe.
He couldn't make much more of a mess up than there is there already.

hmmm maybe, I dunno Split.

If it ends up a 2 horse race I think it would be wise to take a look at the outsider though.

The Labour party may still stay loyal to Brown, but would the country vote for Brown in a General Election just as the fed up factor is reaching maximum ( I'm sure Labour would realize this ). Doesn't matter what political colour people are, when it come to saving ones butt it's do what you gotta do to survive.

*** STOP PRESS ***

El Daily Mailo.

Barcelona: There has been rioting on the streets about the influx of british immigrants into Spain.
Locals describe scenes of groups of sun-burned people swamping their local communities with their foreign ways.
A local, who wished to remain anonymous said, "If they want to assimilate into our communities thats fine, but they should wear spanish-style clothes, not socks-and-sandals and union-jack shorts. They come here, with their funny foods, like HP sauce, jellied-eels and tea-bags, and might change the cultural landscape to spains detriment. Also, they take our houses, and our locals cant afford to buy cheap homes for themselves. Its a disgrace!"

Brilliant Trendie!! I am from Ethiopia and been living here since 1994. I was an asylum seeker for a couple of years as well. It makes me laugh all the BS people talk about us. I like Britian a lot and I have done extremely well here without any help from anybody. I hated claiming benefits.

Unfortunately, I am so bloody British now I don't want to live here any more. I am always moaning about all sorts of things and I may even start saying 'bloody immigrant' very soon  . I am going back to Ethiopia and trading from there from April. I will be one of the richest people there and I will live like a bloody king. I will have an army of people working at my house for may be £100/month (that is the salary for about 5 people, by the way). My Italian wife is coming withe me, too. I bet the Italians also say, 'bloody asylum seekers taking our wives....'

You gotta laugh at people's small mindedness, pessimisim and stupidity.

Talking of spitting image puppets - how about having them in Parliament instead of MPs and we the electorate vote on the speech,( choice of x number, as written by us on the net)) and then vote on the reply (x number as written by us on the net).
Should be some sort of agreement anyway and a bit more COMMON SENSE.

"I'm not sure what the Labour party rules are on electing a new leader but doesn't the entire party membership have to vote on it. Unlike the Conservatives where only the Tory MP's get to vote."

Well, the Labour Party is so democratic that many members have several votes each..........one vote if you are a member of a trade union, one vote also if you are an MP, one vote if you are in an associated socialist society and so on.

Like I said, we the people get one day of democracy every four or five years when we are invited to vote for one set of lying toads or another.

I like the idea of the puppets.

Not sure about the phone polls.

If Blue Peter can't be trusted, what chance would there be with a bunch of MP's counting and collecting.

There is enough Jackanory about the expenses claims, never mind all of those 0898 numbers.

Ah, not quite the same thing, just same result.

Mr C

No, what I'm getting at Mr C is that the Tory system is designed to elect a compromise candidate which is how they ended up with William Hague.

I can't remember who the other candidates were back then but I had a gut feeling about William Hague right from the start and never backed him

I've got the same gut feeling now about Brown but this time the other way around. Think about it, if you were an ex steelworker from the North East or an ex miner from Wales or an ex shipbuilder from Scotland, would you be comfortable with the knowledge that the next Labour PM was decided 10 years before hand by Blair and Brown in some trendie London resturant.

I just don't think it's as clear cut as people think but, time will tell I suppose.

Actually I'd expect it as union leadership deals are fixed in smoked filled rooms ;-)

This, of course, is the Labour version of Maggie's "There Is No Alternative".

Election Voting by internet........

Do we reckon this will ever take hold in the UK? hmm not sure but i think i remember a pilot scheme a few years back.

But o.k. so we might see, buy my vote on ebay for £50.00, tell me who you want :)

but if it could be made secure, ie, the govs webserve connects to a householders pc at a secific time etc that would be good for increased turn out..... unless hmm sky tv can host the interaction hmmm I wonder.........

Errrr LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE...........weighing in at 338 lbs fighting in the red shorts, with blue piping, look at his moves, look at his moves ladies and gentleman......
PRESS RED now for Goooooordon Brown..

Boooo, boooo, boooo,

weighing in at a lean mean killin machine 175 lb , wearing yellow, in the other corner is MinnngGGG The Merciless,.

hmmm then they could do a sort of who spins the best bullsh!t, like call my bluff, but only they do it with current issues, foreign international relations, Ok so thats not new but...... the potential excitement of it,

Wild animals, the ring girls, wow, edwina currie in suspenders , I think this could be very powerfuls for the pay per views.......

And why not, they then gotta batter the hell out of each other and the last one standing, is in !

Worth a thought .

Anyone who trusts a politician is either too young or too naive to learn from experience.
But isn't there a cycle of politicians trying to offer hope over experience the closer we get to a general election?
I'm 60 and cannot remember a good government in my whole lifetime, only cycles of hope and disappointment

If we follow the US example eg voting in a B movie star ( Ronald Reagan ) who would we get
Michael Caine " not many people know this but xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
Vinny Jones " bash 'em till they give in "
Posh Spice "lets have pink carpets and matching curtains"
LOL
