Tradstation 2000i Questions

I have been using TS for years vr4-7 and ever since TS decided to drop the EU data feed have also been using CQG. Seems expensive both in screen space and monthly cost to have 2 packages like this so want to consolidate everything to TS2000i.
Please could somebody advise me where I can purchase 2000i
Who I should use for Data, need all EU/US futures/Indices and FX real-time.
What problems have people had using TS2ki and 3rd party data
Will systems that I have running on TS7 be directly portable to TS2ki

Any help greatly appreciated.

TS7 easylanguage is slightly different to TS2K so
there can be slight portability issues.

The self contained support in TS2K for external data is for feeds from ESignal, PCQuote. However if you look around, you will find that there are now lots of other ways to bring in data into TS2K.
For example, I believe there is a FREE util available to bring in live data from IB into TS2K. Unfortunately IB do not currently provide historical data although I have heard that this may be available in the future. The best source in terms of variety of data I have come across to date is ESignal although they slightly pricey. However if you pay yearly then it can work out quite nice!
I use TS7 and personally am only interested in US data. However saying that TS7 can be used to bring in data from ESignal using a third part util available from www.tssupport.com. Incidentally they also have other utils to allow you to feed data into TS2K from a variety of different sources even using DDE which means you can use almost any data feed.
Also look at the utils on http://www.dynastoresoftware.com

If you want to I believe you can buy an original second hand
copy of TS2K much cheaper than the price of a new copy although I dont know about the legal implications - whether Tradestation (prev Omega Research) allow you to transfer licenses this way.
If you want to do this then place an advertisement in the classified section on this site or on www.elitetrader.com. You should be able to pick up a legit copy for around 300 dollars.

According to the terms and conditions, licences are not transferable.

I have used it successfully with Tenfore (Quotespeed) and eSignal. The good thing about eSignal is the plug-in that allows you to back fill the data in TS2000i Global Server.

I've been using hyperserver with TS2Ki since December and it works really well. I find it better and cheaper then using it in conjunction with Esignal which I used for a year. On the odd occasion the charts would be out of 'synch' with IB prices.
Through the year there were also 'technical problems' with Esig. Also at times, I found it a bit 'messy' using 'on demand server' to connect everything together.

IB - when things are really volatile I've found the prices for YM (mini-dow) have just disappeared. I've noticed this happen approximately....hmmm.. I'd say about 3 times this year. Over all I'd recommend Interactive, they are very good and reliable, especially if you day trade. Hyperserver works seamlessly with IB to transfer the data to TS2Ki.

Hi Guys,
Tryng to setup Tradestation 2000i on XP pro, having loaded software and service pack 4, trying to update service pack 5, brings up following error message:

‘The decompression of %s failed.There may not be enough Free disk space available In the temp directory’

Whilst the same problem in win 2000 is easy to resolve, I cant seem to solve for XP pro, any suggestions or advice would be very appreciated.

try deleting contents of temp folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

this assumes that you are logged in as "Administrator"

if your worried about the contents of the temp folder then simply create a backup folder and move the contents into that one.

b)Indi, if you've solved the problem would you mind posting the solution?

I'm running TS2000i with windows 2000 and it works well, although I imagine I'll update to windows xp pro ,if I get a new pc.

I've searched the internet and there doesn't seem to be much information about how to run TS2000i with windows xp pro.

If they do not work together, then I guess I'll stick to using windows 2000.

I have installed 2000i on three machines running XP that i use for backtesting and the only problem that i found during installation was the one described by Indi which was resolved as described.

Wow!! didnt expect such quick response.Hughmac Tx for the exact temp fie location,
unfortunately having found file and temporarily sent to recyle bin, and than trying update 5 hasnt done the trick and am still getting same message.
hmmm i dont know whether I am doing something wrong but update 4c loaded ok.I presume you have all updated version 5.
Guys sorry to be a pain but would really appreciate any other ideas...

make sure you are logged in as administrator, check that there are no hidden files in that temp folder, (Select temp folder-then from menu-Tools>Folder Options>View and check that Show Hidden Files and Folders checkbox is selected) and delete any found.

Reboot your machine then try running update again.

This temp folder is the designated area that system uses to unbundle software during installation and in theory should be cleared after a succsessful install but seldom is.

Tx again Hughmac i have followed instructions to the letter and stil no luck my friend.
Also double checked using your link below in search files and folders,and there are NO TEMP files showing now.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Hmmm really puzzling,in the process i may have inadvertently deleted some other files but
i cannot be sure as mostly i have restored back from recyle bin.

Also does anyone know the enhancements of update 5?

Have tried quite a few things to solve this so any furher suggestions would be relly great

2000i works fine with xp pro.
Hughmacs suggestion works too. Just need to make sure you see those folders are visible as xp does not show them as defult need to change in folder options.

A general comment on TS2000 and that is to ensure that it continues to run fairly efficiently it is a good idea to do the following on a daily basis:

Go to GlobalServer and click on "Tools" then click on "Run Nightly Maintenance"

If you havent done this before then it can take quite a while to do so but once it has been done once it will be a fairly quick process if done daily afterwards. It works a little bit like defrag and helps keep the speed up as well as preventing data integrity issues.
