trading work experience

I am currently in the process of trying to gain a summer internship with one of the large london based IB's. However, I am well aware that competition is fierce for such positions and was wondering if anyone could recommend other possible sources of work experience. I was considering writing to the the LPE or the metal exchange to see if they could offer me anything that would give me an insight into floor trading, but can anyone recommend any other possible alternatives.

I know that this forum is turning into the "city career advive" forum but reading the other posts I can that alot of you guys have substantial experience in the city and know your stuff.

That is a good idea. If you have contacts in the city ask them. Trading work experience will be very vyer hard to find. If you are hiting brick walls with that try writing to a few hedge and ask if you can program some code or administration; at least its expereince. Also try local stockbrokers,
