Trading the markets with Alan Rich.

1. Are there any statistics on the accuracy of Via ? eg. % of good alerts to total alerts ?

2. On receiving any given alert from Via, on average what duration of time would expire from alert time to trade entry time assuming the alert is good.

Thanks for your time.

Chicken Curry,
In the scanner are arguably the potential hottest stocks of the day. When the alert comes its telling you its just set itself up for a potential move. We are trading the markets and they have their own way of reacting so i couldnt put a time on anything because the markets dont trade with certainty. However what i do is give live commentary at the same time which helps members make sense of what is going on.

There are statistics going on in the background for the via staff to check out my stock picking skills and what %ge my alerts are making on various stocks. I sometimes refer to this at various stages of the day.

I attach a copy for anyone to see my results. The only thing i have deleted is the name of the set up.

Great stuff! Eurotrader52,

I attach a chart of the move post market. You may wonder how you can trade these moves post market. Many of them but not all i can play using a level 2 direct access screen. however you need to be taught by someone like my self how to work your order. Use a brokers smart order routing and i think your fill might be a little out dont you.

Anyway, even if you didnt want to take the move when results came out i take hot stocks like this the next day, place them in the scanner and give live market commenatry on them whilst the scanner gives potential intra day entry points.

Mr Charts told me how much he was enjoying the thread and as he is a big fan of trading things that move and knows thats how the best profits are made. I hope i've persuaded him to do some contributing.

Fingers crossed. It would nice to see him back.

Here's the action on ZRAN today. I commented on it live, on my web site throughout its morning move.

NTRI was not as good as i expected. This came over quite quickly so i switched to another account and used a style of trading i call SBXing and took 207 points out of it. I'll mention this style of trading at my free trading evening on Thursday and show how it can work very well with hot stocks. Details of the free evening are earlier in the thread.

ALERT: ENWV Earnings run with price/volume breakout

ENWV reports after the close. Very risky company (just look at the 52 week Range!) This is normal earnings anticipation buying and ENWV could break out again ON VOLUME SPIKES from this new base or 20 ma in the 3:00 or 3:30 period.

Wonderful to put a watch list of potential hot stocks (usually nasdaq) that will EXPLODE from 4 days to 30-minutes into the close the day of their report. These equities offer good trading opportunities through the next session(s) and some are longer term holds, depending on the kind of surprise, valuation, future growth prospects, etc. I find the Pristine ESP for Tradestation works adequately for me if not stellar. I track the after hours movement and usually sell a partial position by 4:30-5:00. The constant gyration after hours on equities that just reported earnings is a bit off putting for me but perhaps that because I've never become a specialist at it.

Eurotrader52. ZRAN was a good stock pick. Well done.

I like to take potential hot stocks and see what else is left in them for continuation plays or reversals during the trading day.

Here is a list of some that i've been following on my scanner today and their %ge moves from my intra day setups. The names of the scans have been deleted. The members were alerted the very moment each one of those triggered.

ATHR +12%
BMHC +11%
DOVP +8%
BLDP +8%
ZRAN +6%

Alan

Good evening, Alan,
Thank you for your kind words.
As always, I enjoyed our latest "power breakfast" this morning.
It was good to talk with someone who really understands what trading the Nasdaq is all about.
Like you with your people, I with my people had ZRAN as one of my hottest six before the market opened.
I traded it on a simple power breakout of the first half hour range and exited when it appeared to run out of steam.
The attached image was taken at the time of exit. The cross hairs are the point of entry; I was very slightly late but still took $1.13 per share from the move.
Like you, I am looking for at least a $1 per share every day on a hot stock. For someone trading 1000 shares, that's a living, as long as you're not too extravagant
Usually I get that if it's available.
I also look for what I regard as "bread and butter" moves on a repeated basis, 20c, 30c, 40c here and there. A few of those is a good living, but normally at least three times a week the $+++ moves are there for the taking.
However, in results season, as now, they are there almost every day, which is why I particularly enjoy this time of year.
So there was a simple $ move today in ZRAN. Not rocket science, in my opinion.
I often get the "bread and butter" moves on my core trading stocks which form the third leg of my stock watch lists. I think if you concentrate only on core stocks you often miss out on the big movers.
Tomorrow I'll post the screen shot I took at the time of a RIMM short entry today and the screen shot I took when I covered.
Richard

I always believe you should stay in a trade until the evidence tells you the move is about to die. In my view, simply exiting a trade because you have reached a target, ( a target which is normally pure guesswork), is unwise as prices often over shoot key levels. I think trades must be conducted on the basis of the evidence you can see of market behaviour, and with Nasdaq stocks, often of the behaviour of market participants as well as other factors.
Just as no-one should trade on emotion, no-one should trade on their personal opinions of where price should go without evidence.
Richard

Hi Richard. Could you explain to those of us who don't have Alan's subscription services or have had the benefit of your commercial coaching expertise exactly what a 'power breakout' is (as opposed to a vanilla breakout) in your own words?

Plus, what criteria do you and 'your people' use to establish a hot stock ahead of the open.

And what basis do you use for entering and exiting this particular trade? Power breakout may well be covered in your response to the first part of my question above, but for the exit, what exactly does 'run out of steam' mean?

It's good to see the chart and the handsome profits, but it would be even more useful, not to say educational for both newbies and experienced traders alike to get an inside on how you're doing what you're doing.

Cheers

Bramble, this is my thread albeit a public one. Your intention is not to get a debate going on hot stocks but just to drive someone away from posting. You've already been banned once. In future i would ask readers to ignore what you say and get on with things because your one aim is to be disruptive. Please dont post here again.

I always knew that when this thread became successful the knockers would start creeping out from the woodwork and try to destroy it by making posts as if they were on the publics side but with the sole aim of chasing people away. ...and if you dont like what i said then pm me.

Carry on posting the way you wish to Richard.

Alan

Yikes! I thought those were interesting questions, I'm sure I'm not the only one other person who would like to hear what Mr Charts has to say in response.

On a side note Naz, it's good to see someone else keeping stupid hours.

I have respect for people that trade different markets, different styles, different platforms and if i make comments about things its just with a smile. Richard and i have very friendly debates sometimes on the merits of our trading platforms but laugh at each other during the debate, neither take offence. We are rivals in what we do yet friends. Is he going to tell me everything he does of course not. I enjoy looking at his posts and working out how i would play this or that and perhaps the reasons he played it.

Thats his style of posting and i respect it. I may not always agree but i find it enjoyable.

The hot stock style does emotionally make you sit back and think, it may not be everyones cup of tea but i respect what you do so respect what we do and sit back and think, dont get sneaky by trying to sound like the interested public when in reality you may be ex banned member just trying to cause trouble.

Remember guys when the ruckers come in, with their searching little questions its just destroy things not add content. Thats when you know your thread is doing well.

They are just like the people that send viruses on the web. They might seem innocent but their intention is to destroy.

So anyone is welcome to post their hot stocks and if someone asks a question which you dont wish to answer then dont. Just let us read your posts and make our own conclusions.

KLIC - Momentum play for today

I have been trading MOMENTUM stocks for about 10 years now. My style is not intense but rather I trade about 2 to 3 times a day about 7 months of the year. The rest of the time is spent usually in travel and hobbies. My favorite plays (about 80% of all my trades) are related to earnings reports and the explosive moves (in either direction) that characterize this delightful and profitable season. I do not have a paid subscription service. Allow me to just post some of my CHARTS and do with them what you will! I will leave posting of actual gains, methodology, position sizes to others. I MAKE MY MONEY TRADING and not by teaching others to trade.

That's quite a strange response Naz.

In my experience people ask questions because they would like to know the answer. I don't see how a question could ever "destroy" anything.

Spam Man

It's not a strange response it's what they teach and if you would like to know how to pick the hot stocks and play them like Alan or Richard then I suggest go see them for 1-2-1 coaching, as this is what they teach. BTW I have been taught by Alan.

Nice to hear from you Pitbull, i really enjoyed the get together with 20 other US traders you put on a while ago.

I know that you trade some great hot stocks and some of your moves are excellent. If you ever feel the need, feel free to post them.
