Trading Issues With Macbook?

Ok so now im trying to get a decent platform like MT4 for forex trading and it seems that all the good ones are not compatible with mac... do any of you guys have macs? If so what platforms are compatible... Cheers

TBH I don't know any. Maybe someone else does.
What I do know is macs have generally been the de riguer work horse of the multi media industry (music, graphics etc.)
I know they are short on lots of win type apps in general.
 
Lol i had an important Excel spreadsheet emailed to me today about work stuff and it took me an hour to find and download some software that would allow me to open it, and after i turned my mac off and on again the software had gone :/

I may have to buy windows xp? and have that installed to use the likes of MT4?
 
Actually yeah, that jogs the memory, there was or used to be an OSX emulator (wrapper)
That could be installed on win machines.

I don't know, but there may be something similar for macs, or if memory serves correctly, didn't they ditch motorola cpu's for intel?
Meaning x86 win architecture if i'm not mistaken.
Do some googling cause I'm far from sure on that :)
 
Well yes they apparently have intel capabilities, a guy at Alpari suggested to download Virtual Box... so i have done that, and now i'll have to download Windows XP in to there, only issue is that im not in england for a bit so can't buy the english version, and i have no idea where to download it from lol... although i have a tech mate who ay be able to help me with that...

A lot of messing about though, shame there is no decent software ready to go for us mac guys :/
 
I'd get your tech mate to sort it if you're not sure.
I'd be very wary of just downloading anything at OS level running kernel code that is going to run a financial app :eek:
 
TBH I'd just get a legit copy of XP or win7.
Not that I'm implying your not using legit, I don't care either way ;)
I've heard some is OK, but really its not worth the risk.
Some ba$tards but back door trojans and all sorts of crap into the source code.
If you've had no problems, maybe there is no problem.
Probably best not to discuss any improper apps as most sites don't like it ;)
New legit license gives peace of mind, that alone is worth the price :)
 
Yeah its only £100 but i'll have to get is shipped over to where i am at the moment, although Amazon ship worldwide.... is XP the best option or 7 in your opinion? Alpari suggested XP
 
software4students is an excellent site for cheap Microsoft products.

You can use any student name in your family to claim the discount.
 
I personally prefer XP, its not as bloated as win7.
TBH I think most would agree XP is probably the most stable and lean windows ever.
Not sure but I think XP is a case of hunting out stock left on the shelf, I don't think its officially shipped as OE by MS anymore.
Google it - careful of dodgy ebayers though, bound to crop up in results ;)

10 license small business XP package for £1500 - overkill I'd say :eek:
You may have to bite the bullet and get win7 - if its a recent mac it may cope, if older it may grind to a halt under the cpu load.

I'm currently using a ProBook running 10.6.6 and if you'd like to use MetaTrader4, it is possible. Here's my own experience.

I've downloaded WineBottler, (go to http://www.winehq.org/ or http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ ) .I believe they are the same thing. It's a free application that runs Windows applications without turning your mac into a windows computer. That's all to techie for me, but you can get the info. from the site. When you download it you will find MetaTrader4 as one of the pre-installed prefixes (their word for applications).

I'm no expert, I got this through trial and error. The only other alternative would be to buy Parallels and Windows 7 and run that on your mac.

It's worked fine for me. Hope this helps.

Still really struggling to get this sorted, wine bottler simply won't finish when i start to make a prefix... it stope 1/2 way through... so annoying, and don't want to have windows fully loaded as it can overload the CPU... what to do :/

Tried virtual box too and that does not work
 
I had the same problems.
In the end I bought myself a non mac laptop for trading.
