You gotta question the motives of a broker that advises that ? when really '..with volatility comes opportunity..' [well at least for those with secret boxes smuggled out of nazi germany and similar such gizmo's.]

Maybe they've nicked all the client money and are going to end up like MF Global.

If I owned Oanda thats the very last thing I'd be doing ! Those guys have a golden goose, the last thing they want to do is slaughter it !

Maybe it's a bit of reverse psychology. How many people do what they're told?

Well, as a forex trader I have no intentions of staying out of the market. I agree with what bbmac said, "with volatility comes opportunity".

Yeah, I get whipsawed here and there and bang my head against the wall a few times but IMO it's more difficult to make money in a non-moving market.

Does not compute....sounds very odd indeed. A broker that does not want thier clients to trade ?

A sales gimmick, so they can come across as the caring broker, when in reality they're betting against you

I applaud Oanda on this, sure volatility creates opportunity, but largely speaking volatility will destroy traders without a fair amount of experience. So while Oanda may take a hit in terms of transaction volume for a week or two - they are trying to prevent their clients from blowing themselves up.
