Just to be contrarian, you could always get up earlier than you had to and be at your desk for 7, then take in the European session before going into the ES - you could even trade the ES out of hours. Plenty of time to do your homework before the US session...
and for sh!ts and giggles, the here are the *rolling* (mean, SD) low -> high ranges (in ticks) per 60m period over 50 periods of said contracts
