This is a true story. Maybe nothing to do with trading but maybe about gambling mentality.
Three of us in a casino. Me, another chap and his young son (actually underage for a casino).
Dad says to son;" heres's £100 of chips. Go and amuse yourself on the tables while Ray & I talk business. This was about 20 years ago. by the way.
About an hour or so later I ask the lad how he got on. With a big grin on his face he told me his strategy.
How would you have played it?

i friggin love roulette. Ive been 7 times now and roughly quadrupaled my money each time.

Well as roulette is a negative expectation game, did he just smile, and tell you that he did all his dough, whilst secretly having kept it all without actually putting a single bet on?

martingale-like strategy, although not as simple as red/black doubling up... far better to place £1 on number 9, then after 35 failures start putting £2 on number 9... that's what I like to do when I have to play roulette anyway

ETA: Not always number 9. Sometimes I stick my neck out and go for 23.

At an average of 40 spins/hr in brick-and-mortars, this is an incredibly tedious way to lose money. Go to a casino and lose it in a flash, it's inevitable so it might as well be exciting.
