information symmetry for retail investors - is there a "need"?

Hi,

Not selling just looking to gauge reaction from the ground so any comments will be of interest:

We are financial technology firm currently evaluating entering the online retail trading / investing space. We're particularly interested in the information gap that exists between the normally information poor retail trader/investor and institutional investors. We aim to ruffle a few feathers by providing a new type of news service designed to plug this gap and promote information symmetry to retail investors (and sometimes... give them an edge). Ultimately the end result is it should help make you better informed about the trading / investing decisions you make.

What is our tech? Unfortunately I can't give too much away at this stage but our type of real-time intelligence (breaking news / as well as deeper analysis) is normally only available to institutional investors for $$$$$ (yes, we also have banks / hedge funds as clients).

We will launch with a well known online trading brand (to give you comfort) and we will offer this service for FREE.

I appreciate I've only gone into very high level detail so interested in your thoughts from a conceptual PoV (+ how do you keep on top of market developments?, do you pay for news / squawk services? etc).

Thanks in advance.

How can you plug the gap if you don't know what it is?

There is so much information that different traders use in different ways so you will not find any one answer. Unless you understand how the impact of the information, you may fail to provide anything new.

Thanks for the reply - a very valid point and we are already working on "personalisation" to help here.

Ultimately though, we're looking to provide a Bloomberg-type firehose of real-time news / analysis (programmatically linked to a watchlist or topics/groups chosen by the end user so it should be relevant) which normally costs $$$$.
