Programming Tradestation 2000i (with Easy Language)

Hi :cheesy: ,

I purchased my copy of Tradestation 2000i a few weeks ago - and I'm interesting in programming it (I think with Easy Language). 😀

Has any 😀 ne tried it before? And how do you manage to program it? Where to download Easy Language? Is it usefull?

How much did it cost $100 or $6000 ? Think you really need a degree in Computer Science & programming - there are specialised boards on Yahoo etc. Personally I have a copy and copy of Easy language Data, programming and just about anything associated with it - It remains in my unused CD collection ..... enuff said... But then I'm just a thicky Forex Trader!!
 
Well it costs around 4000 pounds but that is the prosuite, which includes tradestation, and two more programs. :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

I'm not that bad in programming (I have a degree) but would like to know where to purchase EasyLanguage and is it really necessary to reprogram Tradestation.
 
EasyLanguage comes with Tradestation, so no need to purchase it separately. I'd start by reading the manuals that come with it, they will give you the a grounding in using TS2ki and how to program new trading strategies with EasyLanguage. If you're a graduate in computer programming, you'll find EL a doddle.

There are literally thousands of easylanguage indicators posted by users of Tradestation and you will also get support from Omega on the same site.

I have found it invaluable for writing code when I have got stuck with something. Writing the code is actually quite easy but occasionally there will be something that is a bit tricky and so I go to the site and post a question which normally gets answered pretty quickly.

Thanks Guys - I registered to TradeStationWorld, so far I'm exploring it. Are there any books on EasyLanguage - but I think the code is similar to VB or c++.NET. Also does it really help to program it to your needs

You only use Easylanguage to write indicators that you dont already have or maybe to modify or write a new one. I dont know of any books that would help but the Help file in Easylanguage is pretty good.

Ok. Thanks everyone, I'm going to order the book Rognvald recommended and finish reading the help files.

Another question that springs to mind :cheesy: is have any of you modified some of the indicators or re-programmed Tradestation? Did it help?

Sharky - Easy Language comes with it - the Manual I believe is extra - Which I purchased on Disc. .......its extensive.

I have used Easylanguage extensively to make my own indicators and to modify those already supplied by Tradestation. I have also used it to provide combined signals and what if situations to develop a trading strategy.

Has it been of use ? Undoubtedly in my view but it all depends upon what you are trying to achieve.

Also I am not a progammer so if I can do it then I am sure others can.

I have "easy language" Manual - 5 Mg - pdf Format on disc - offers ?
 
Best way to get yr head around EL is to look at the preprogrammed indics and functions and use them as models for what you want to do. I have no programming experience but can drive EL very easily.
 
I am using TS2000i for easy language strategy development, and I expect to then use any strategies that I create - in TS8.

What would be a useful resource for all easy language users would be a definitive A-Z dictionary type reference for all words that you may wish to write - with the EL code translation. I have several Omega Research trading systems pdf files and a George Pruitt and John R Hill - Building winning trading strategies with tradestation pdf. Although these do provide step by step instructions and examples of how to build strategies, and the Pruitt and Hill book provides a list of 'reserved words' and 'syntax errors' - what I would appreciate is a definitive no nonsense easy language dictionary type reference. Does anyone know of a resource that comes close to doing this? (besides the ‘easy language dictionary’ in the ‘easy language power editor’ of TS2000i - which I do not find the simplest of resources to make use of)

With TS8 the easylanguage dictionary and definitions seems fairly good. Better than what you get with 2000i.
They used to do a manual with older TS versions that contained this A-Z but no longer appears to be available.

How do other users of ts2000i make use of the easy language dictionary in the easy language power editior?

Under the find tab you can type in the name of the word that you want to use - such as 'price'. Under the 'Name' column, It then returns a list of all easy language expressions that contain the word price. Under the 'Category' column there is a corresponding heading such as - ActivityBar, User Functions and Strategy Position. The only problem is it does not tell you what the easy language word containing the word 'price' means, or how is it to be used. Therefore not of much help - as far as I can see 🙁 .
