Richard Schabacker wrote the "bible" on technical analysis: Technical Analysis and Stock Market Profits. You can find free pdfs of it online (it's off copyright).

Thanks Guys. You both seem to be good contributors to us newbies. Would like to say big thanks, and hope I will be at a level where my input can help the other when I get wiser.

As a noob myself and not much of a techy, I've found that Al Brooks has some wonderful things out there. Practical and profoundly accessible to someone like myself. Too much analysis brings confusion to me. Keeping it simple has been the key.

He does indeed. And has also been very helpful to me.

I think it's fair to say, though, that his "three main textbooks" aren't easy going at all. Although there's plenty of highly valuable content there, it's also easy to see - especially from his personal situation - that he's a better trader than he is a writer: I know many people who have found those rather "heavy going" (as I did myself). His online course, on the other hand, seems far better presented and more approachable (but not cheap).

The other book that springs to mind in this context is Bob Volman's "Understanding Price Action: practical analysis of the 5-minute time frame", published about a year ago (and highly valuable for the practical analysis of longer/slower time-frames, too, so the title's actually underselling the product!).

Edited to add: by the way, a PDF of excerpts from Volman's book can be downloaded, free, from one of the author's websites, at www.upabook.wordpress.com

Al Brooks first book is not easy to read, but after receptive reads it all becomes crystal clear and an higher lever of understanding may be gained in a field of trading, he trades classic technicality (edwards/magee) in a shorter term span, he also stresses out to take the best trades and learn to have the stamina to wait for them, the best trades are also the one that are in tune with our own personality, it may take a while to align the all but it can be worthwhile.
