IG Index - suspicious account activity

Before I start, let me just say that I have closed a profitable trade in the last hour, so I am not a bitter investor trying to blame my broker.

Also, I am a passive reader of t2w, so it's taken an interesting experience for me to make my first post.

Anyway, here is my little story.

Today I closed a profitable trade on IG's Puredeal platform at 10.38.
Fine so far.

Then a few minutes later I noticed my charts were not updating.
Odd.

The markets I had been trading all morning stopped feeding at 10.39, ie just air after the 10.39 bar, chart freeze if you like. This was true in the basic Puredeal charts as well as the advanced Tools charts. The thing that puzzled me was that this wasn't a platform issue, as I could see up-to-date charts on other instruments.

In other words, only the feed to charts of instruments I was trading had been stopped.
How could this happen? It would be an incredible co-incidence if only they were affected.

Then I noticed one of the markets I traded had been removed from my Watchlist.
And further, it could not be added again as it was now missing from it's normal place in the Search list.

So I have no charts and no way to open a position in just one or two markets, the rest all fine.

I am making no statements or assumptions, I will leave it to you to make your own mind up what might be happening. Although I will say I have heard of stories of accounts at some brokers being 'reviewed' during / after profitable trades - and the above experience seems consistent with that - I feel I have been restricted in some way.

This may just be a huge co-incidence.

Maybe not.

I am left feeling slightly uneasy and less confident in my broker.

Spot FX EUR/USD

They are back now. The downtime was exactly 1 hour 1040 to 1140.

I could post a pic, but it would upset IG. Just imagine bars upto 1040 and then whitespace until 1140.

If anyone else confirms a chart gap on their IG screen during this period then I will eat my words and delete the post.

Infact if any IG chart user can just quickly say their Spot FX EURUSD chart DID NOT have a gap in this period, I think this will prove that it is possible to restrict the data feed on a per-user basis.

Anyone care to help check this?

No white space, but clearly a data arror of some sort around that time.

Drop down to the 1 minute view - the white gap is on all time frames - but most evident there.

What do you mean by data error? Interesting if we have different experiences of the same potential problem.

Er you had just closed a profitable trade and THEN they may have frozen your charts.

Doesn't make sense

If they did that to every trader who had just made a profit they wouldn't have many clients.

Try some other brokers?

Had the same problem on the Dax, so walked away, ... now I cant get the charts open.

I lost my watchlist on IG this morning around that time(ish). Think there must be some technical issues there today.

I think the OP is being paranoid.

I know for a fact on my platform it was at "Phone to deal" status after 10:40 but for how long I don not knw until i get my charts up again !

Hardly. I did say maybe it was a coincidence, no paranoia there.
All I wanted was someone else using IG to confirm.

Remember it wasn't just the chart freeze. Markets left the Watchlist and also the Search area, effectively locking me out of them.

Ok lets just call it an unfortunate set of technical failures. Nice, when I'm trying to trade!

I would have been annoyed too, so I know where you are coming from. Technical problems always seem to hit me at the worst time. Yesterday for example - I was about to close a trade when my battery died on the laptop! Not a huge amount of missed pips - but flipping frustrating running up to the study to plug it back in and turn it on again.

Always have access to several brokers, this way you'll have other options just in case.

It wasn't a problem with IT finance.

Every one of his posts are agressively against Spreadbet Firms.

Take a look through his posts, every one of them from when he joined is against Spreadbet Firms and how they rip you off.

Tom Tom is attempting to take Spreadbet Firms to court.

Tom Tom actively admits to 'scamming them' as they 'scam others'.

Tom Tom still uses Spreadbet Firms himself.

A 'System Status' page on their website or inside Puredeal would not take a lot of technology or time to setup, and would then be the first place to check when this stuff happens. Oh well...

You can post screenshots, it's not forbidden by IG if only used for information and private use only. They only get legal if its for commercial use.

Just be careful not to post any private info that could compromise your security.
