Hi, I am not based in Ireland, but I know one guy who runs some meetings in Ireland from time to time, and I believe he is based in Dublin. His name is Phillip Konchar. He also runs a type of live trading room/trader hangout space.

Anyways, his meetings might be a good way for you to meet some Ireland-based traders.

Good luck.

Thx, but I am just looking for anyone in Ireland that is trading fulltime or part time, but doing it seriously.

I looked at his youtube video and it confirmed to me that he is just another car salesman. They can be found all over the place, but those who have worked it out on their own have no interest, or no need, to listen to anything they have to say about the markets.

Again, thx all the same, I know your reply was in good faith.

Yes, of course, no problem at all.

For me going to some network meetings and sometimes even meetings run by car salesman has sometimes really worked out and helped me to make some great contacts (though maybe it was sheer luck). For example, our little trading office comprising 3 full-time traders, in central London, happened to come purely out of sharing pints at one of the Traders Networking drinks. So for me, it has often worked out. I figure there's little down-side and a lot of upside potential.

Good luck!

Hi Luidin,

I'm a home based trader, concentrating on equities. Relatively new to trading, was spreadbetting full time for a number of months. Results were encouraging so i'm gearing up and changing over to a 'proper' broker.

This will give me more access to different strategies I want to explore, as well as drastically cutting down my trading costs!

What about yourself? What markets do you trade?

hi cg..been at it a while now..got distracted there for a bit..but getting back into the swing of things now..don't mind the rubbish posts on other threads..i will keep this thread serious

i normally daytrade us stocks only..reasons are much less riskier and much better opportunities than european markets..as i am not daytrading at the moment i am doing some small risk trades with options on es and crude oil

it's hard to actually find anyone seriously doing trading in ireland..there are a good few trading houses in dublin..but they are really only any good if you live there..which i don't..and they tend to make you stick to their ways of doing things..which are not that good

would be keen to keep in contact with any irish traders who trade from home..but i don't expect to find that many..as most give up after losing a bit of money

let's see what happens

US stocks are my only focus going forward. Concentrate on small to mid caps predominately, also use options either as a directional call with limited downside or a hedge.

I occasionally enter arbitrage positions/hedged strategies on the rare occasions where they exist at a wide enough level to offer attractive profit.

As for time frames I will have been focused on anything from a few days swing trade to the long term. Going forward I will be trying day trading on a small basis to get started. Was always preventing from day trading by the spread with my spread betting broker.

99% of people at home think what I do is the same as going into the bookies so i'm not surprised your finding it hard to find anyone seriously trading!

Options George is correct though, there are groups who meet up in Dublin fairly regularly.

Most of the trading houses in Dublin that i'm aware of predominately concentrate on forex, indices and commodities trading. I think London would be the best bet for finding a firm that trades equities.

i am aware of a few places in dublin..visited an office some years ago opposite dail eireann..was not very impressed..as i could tell from their setups on the screens they were using text book stuff..which i really don't think is the best way to daytrade

i also contacted another crowd in dublin..they do primarily spread trading on es and dax..they said you get paid a very basic wage when learning..something like 400 euro a monrh..and only get to make money when you have proved you can do it..needless to say i declined..and laughed about it to myself..just shows you..some youngesters would jump at this thinking they are getting in with professionals..more like slave drivers if you ask me

the reason 99% think it is like bookies is simple..they don't have a clue about trading..all they know is what they see on the telly and in the papers..i do not like saying it..but most of us irish are still a bit thick when ot comes to looking after your own finances..my own brother got caught with some stupid investments..even after he was told to keep away..but it is his money..so his problem..best to worry bout yourself

daytrading is a different ball game..and requires a diffeenr mindset to longer term trading..but overall the same basic rules apply..if you are stupid enough to stay with a losing position..then you will lose

i will be interested to see how you approach it..and how you get on..we will try keep rhis thread serious as mentioned..no bull or messing about..as it is a serious business

i did say try cg..but you see what we are up against..do you want me to name who will be next..or have you seen the pattern already:rolleyes:

if i was a mod..i would ban any person that makes a silly and stupid non sensical post..that does nothing but waste people's time..NO EXCEPTIONS !

So you would BAN yourself ?;)

if you can show me such a post i made..most surely..i do not jump into other people's serious discussions..posting some silly and stupid picture..why the hell would i want to do something like that..do i look like a fool!

replying with like for like is not the same..idiots require idiotic treatment..serious people require serious treatment..it is common sense..why would anyone in their right mind treat an idiot seriously!

Dude few people have the intelligence to understand the concept that an unrealised loss aint a real loss.I mean if your MIND is right every things ok innit(y)

firstly..i am not a dude..i consider myself to be what we call here..a culchie..but not the farmer type

you again show your ignorance..as there has been many discussions in relation to unrealized versus realized..profits and losses..but it appears you are either unable..or unwilling..to understand..which gives the same result..you showing your ignorance to all..without even thinking about how stupid you look

if you have anything worthwhile to contribute..then feel free..if not..then go look up some more stupid little pictures on the net..to post somewhere else

it really is amazing how people are unable to see their own stupidity..but then again..that's exactly what happens most who trade..and then they go and blare their stupidity all over the internet..what a bunch of muppets..really:cheesy:

You really are one dumb ass moder focker:LOL:

"Dude"..where did you learn your trading skills..let me guess..from the......

SEASEME STREET GANG :D

Even if they are carsalesmen as @Lúidín says, which he seems to use a pejorative, then I would still find it invaluable. You could still meet other people there who are interested the same way you are. I think it is very arrogant for him to dismiss it outright. What else is new.

I am curious. Why are equities more popular in London?
