If you are referring to the Share Competition, I think it is a test of "contest smarts" rather than stock picking ability.
I was doing ok with my own method, then I saw this guy Number 1 on the list, so I decided to follow. He went down and I went down too.

cs66 - price links are frequently out of synch on this comp, which makes it a bit of a lottery.
Had the same with one of mine last week - placed an order, and market priced remained unchanged for several minutes. But instead of that price showing when the deal appeared 20 minutes later, it was at the 20 minute later market price, totally wiping out what should've been a gain. Very frustrating. Experienced it dozens of times. It's just one of the irregularities we have to put up with I guess - an intermittent glitch in the delay mechanism. Maybe that's why Paul leaves the xd dips playable to compensate 😉
It's only a game. For anyone who wants a serious comp with broker fees, stamp duty, and with holdings adjusted on xd days, there are other sites doing that.

PS: Keep your eyes peeled every Tues/Wed and you'll see several other players taking advantage of divi dips. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Not usually worthwhile in the real world.

Okay, PurplePerson - I've removed your two shorts that capitalised on the Dividend Date, and deducted the profits from your account. Since we don't currently compensate for dividend dates, please do not try to capitalise from them - anyone found doing so, will have their trades revoked - and in particular the winners always has their trades checked, and if they were found to have won through improper trades then they may also lose their standing.

I take some evil comfort in seeing that, having spotted my devious move, cs66 promptly fell from top spot. plunging 59 places and is now £15k behind me even after my ill gotten gains have been reclaimed by the warden. Aha!

The £500 is going to be a monthly prize offered by Finspreads for the forseeable future.
The winner each month will have £500 deposited into a Finspreads account. You must either already have an account with Finspreads, or be prepared to open one, to be eligible for the £500. There are some other terms and conditions that will apply, but it's nothing you wouldn't expect to find for a prize of this magnitude.
The new terms & conditions should be available on the site the day before next month's competition goes live, which is 12th September.
