This has been in the pipeline since the 911 Iraq war fiasco. Was to stop Saddam selling oil in Euros and making the Iraqi treasury very rich. Similarly Iran. Other oil producers were thinking the same. Selling oil in declining US dollars is not good business.

Even more so when numpties like Trump who take over a healthy economy and then boosting it further with 1.2 Trillion of dollars tax cuts to people who already have money. He will hand over the biggest recession US will see in our life time I reckon. At least then he can be remembered for something BIG.

Britain is being used by the US in its battle with China. The start of a hot war could easily start over insignificant islands in the South China Sea. China now thinks it is big enough to threaten military action against anyone coming too close to some small islands it claims there. Although their dubious claims appear provocative they are surely not worth having a major war over. However No 10 now does what the US wants or risks losing trade deals.
