Gasoil spreads and flys

Hello i trade Gasoil spreads and flys, does anybody else trades that?

I am a relatively new trader and i would like to ask any more experienced member how did the market used to be before the crunch?

I was told that it used to be more volatile because some main Investment banks used to trade it but now they have pulled.

Any info would be helpful.

Hey there. Yes I trade Gas Oil. I would say 15 months ago it was more volatile (in a good way!). At the moment the phyiscal demand just isn't there, and the GTC facility the exchange brought in this year has really killed the market - You can't really 'nick' a quarter by buying april may -8.50 as easily as you could do in the past - because you have to wait 2 days for the volume to trade through on the offer @ -8.25!!

I'm definitely not greek!! If that's based on my name, it's a character from 'The League of Gentlemen' - google it!

That is really true, it is getting quite slow the last weeks, especially now that we are heading towards summer and the demand for heating is reduced.
However it is a safe trade cause the flies are mean reverting but it takes time.... it is a swing trade now, not intraday anymore.
Do you trade in the City?

Yes and it seems people are basically looking to trade anything that moves at the moment! People need to earn money, so if they can't do it in Gas Oil, they move to Brent Spreads and flys, or Gas Oil Brent cracks for example.

hi ..i too trade gas oil spreads out of india..am trading it for 3 years now..i am also facing similiar issues and am trying to cope up..it really was a different market 6 months ago..but am hopeful that by winter it will be back to its earlier form..

I trade the gasoil and the brent spreads, found brent much more jobbable, but trouble is it's only 6£ a tick and the exchange fees are v high so no point trading the flys unless u can get a few ticks out of them. Does anyone on here know why the front spread has been so hammered in the past few weeks, broke a fair few levels on the charts, is this just seasonality picking up?

Bumping a very old thread here. I've started looking at gasoil recently. Flies look quite range bound and mean reverting.

The one thing I struggle with is news and fundamentals. I have traded stirs for years and the regular economic numbers give me more confidence in positioning myself.

What are the key drivers of gasoil? As opposed to the rest of the oil complex?

Any 'turn' months to watch out for that distort the curve? Obviously it's seasonal, but any other peculiarities?
