AVG Uninstall unleashes viruses???

On my recommendation, someone was in the process of replacing their AVG with AntiVir and has hit a problem.

While I have installed AntiVir and then uninstalled AVG, they have gone down the route of uninstalling AVG first.

It appears (hard to believe) that the uninstall process has unleashed (in true GhostBusters style!) a virus or two...

I'm sure it isn't that stupid, but I'd appreciate anyone else's opinions/experience in this area.

It is probably not the uninstall process itself but the time during which they were without protection but still exposed to the net that was the problem. This has been documented with non savvy folk buying new computers without protection built in and then going online to get it - only to catch something nasty before they could get their condom on.

Unprotected internet exposure is very risky these days - especially from a 24x7 adsl fixed ip address.
