Apply more widely when you have your degree.
After your first job or two experience matters more than a degee but even at some fairly senior levels
they still ask for a degree simply because they can these days it doesn't narrow down the field very much..
Stockbroker is a broadbrush term. Take the intervening time to think what type of firm / role you would like to aim for. Private client? Institutional? Do you have any industry sector or language / overseas connections that gives you an obvious edge for marketing in those areas?
Try to get some intern experience, build up your contacts.
