Hi all,

I am a new user on trade to win and let's hope I'll be using the service for a while yet! lol.

Anyway, to crux of this thread...

I am a graduate from an arts and humanities background with very little exposure to financial markets in general, hence my knowledge of trading would be classed as minimal to non existent.

However, having a read a job spec for a particular trading position and subsequently receiving a invitation for a numeracy test, my interest in trading has become more prominent.

There are so many questions I want to ask but here are the main ones:

1. If I'm applying for an entry level position i.e. junior/trainee trader, what knowledge of financial markets is expected of me?

2. What is to be expected on the numeracy test I am about to sit?

3. What are the general working hours for junior traders?

4. What sort of salary (if any) should I expect if I work as trainee trader?

5. Will potential employers frown upon the fact that I have a degree in humanities and arts as supposed to the archetypal graduate who has a degree in a numerical subject?

I am really nervous but also very excited about working in such a profession hence I kindly ask your advice for information on what to expect, and generally how not to make a complete fool of myself if invited for an interview!

Som,

If youd Latin and Greek you should be OK. If you did Dance and Feminist Studies, I will pray for your soul.

Grant.

Here's the efinicialcareers test. I tried the first one a while back, it's extremely easy.
I think it's along the lines of what they might give you (i really don't know).

Numerical Tests: Numerical Reasoning Test Practice

I suggest you try it anyways, it also refers that "you're allowed to use a calculator" (which seems quite lame for the first few).

Kill,

I would say the emphasis on tests is on mental agility - no calculators, I'm afraid. Arcades/Prop houses do not subscribe to the governments "A" level syllabus.

Grant.

Make sure you know some current general market news and the FTSE indeces. Read up on some FTSE companies too. You may get asked what the current Euro and Dollar exchange rates are.

Interest rate
Inflation rate
Exchange rate
Basic tax rate
6% of £3000
What is 0.10 in percentages.

This will allow you to focus your energy in reading around your subject matter instead of worrying about it passing a silly exam. If you don't pass I wouldn't worry trading wasn't for you in the first place...

Good luck. (y)

Atilla,

I did have a friend but he died (so he claimed). I've got an imaginary friend but he beats me up. Will you be my friend?

Grant.

You sure he didn't commit suicide? :cheesy:

Perhaps your imaginary friend had the better of him? :whistling
