Hi! I am thinking of buying this book about supply/demand. Have you bought it? How many stars from 1-5? ;) Thanks!

Never bought/read the book but if it is the same person who posts on these boards then read here what he has to say and then decide for yourself IMO. I personally agree with the majority of what he says but trading is a personal venture and therefore it is up to you.....

If you go to the homepage link under his name I think you may get sample sections to review before buying. I found it very informative and helpful - have a look and decide yourself.

Hi Patrik,
The central thrust of dbphoenix' 'book' is the relationship between demand and supply and how this is reflected in price and volume. He discusses these relationships in the context of support / resistance and trend. He asserts that there are three primary market strategies: breakouts, retracements and reversals and offers suggestions as to how to implement your own strategy utilising the ideas presented. There are no indicators or even simple rules of thumb. For example, other traders/authors might say something like 'buy the breakout if it is accompanied by heavy volume'. dbphoenix does not do this. There are no easy 'abc formulas' presented here and you are unlikely to read his book in a weekend and come away with a basic idea or two or three that you can apply instantly to a new or existing market strategy to make it (more) profitable. He does not make it that easy for you: to profit from this book will take work - and a lot of it. However, if this does not daunt you and you want to gain an insight into the black art of 'tape reading', then this is the book for you. Of all the books I have on trading, this is by far and away the most useful, offering real insight into the dynamics of the market and is, IMO, worth several times the asking price. In terms of a star rating, I'd give it 4 out of 5. Its weakness, I found, is that it isn't a logical 'book' as such with no start, middle or end. Instead, one is presented with a series of essays varying in length from a page or two up to about thirty or so. The order in which you read them and how you cross reference the various ideas presented, is left up to you. Like the markets themselves, this is a bit confusing and somewhat overwhelming - especially for those who are new to the subject. However, this is a minor criticism: all in all, it's first class stuff. I recommend it highly.

Can someone tell me the full name of dbphoenix book? Thanks.
It doesn't really have one! As I said above, it's more a collection of inter related essays, each of which have their own title. In case you were enquiring for the purposes of doing an Amazon search - or similar - you won't find it. It's not published in the traditional sense and, as far as I'm aware, it's only available direct from the author - dbphoenix. If you want a copy, I suggest you post here requesting dbp to contact you. It's a reasonably safe bet that he'll see this thread!

Hey dbphoenix,

I was wondering if this whole "reading the tape" thing is an intraday thing or is it useful for longer term trading? I get the basic understanding of S&R and trendlines and volume but would like to learn more, hence I'm considering the book too. Was just wondering if it would be useful for a more medium tern positional trader? Also, how much does it cost? I can't seem to find that info.

Cheers,
PKFFW

Hi PKFFW,
Dbp's reticence in actively being seen to promote his book is understandable. But there's nothing stopping me! (dbp - please e-mail me with a revised commission structure - I want 30% at least. :cheesy: ) In answer to your question PKFFW, tape reading is very definitely useful for longer term trading. I've heard the view expressed somewhere on T2W that it is harder to interpret the price / volume dynamic in very short time frames, e.g. 1 minute bars, than it is in hourly, daily or weekly bars. Certainly, daily candles have gravitas, as the OHLC and volume data are tied to something meaningful, as opposed to intra day data that is somewhat artificial by comparison. I haven't explained this very clearly I'm afraid, evenso, I hope you see what it is that I'm driving at?
Tim.

I suspect the two of you are defining "tape reading" in different ways. I don't want to divert this thread into a different topic, so I suggest that a separate thread be initiated or a search be done on tape reading (use my name in the search, if you like) or Vad Graifer's work be consulted.

Hi dbphoenix,

Over the past few weeks, I've found this and another board that you've frequented, and I find your stuff very compelling food for thought.
I've noticed repeated tendencies for stocks, for instance, to settle in around a particular moving average on lower volume after a runup and then resume shortly thereafter. As you have many times noted, though, that's often due to S/R levels, which I'm still trying to grasp the basics of in some ways.
I think I may have found a way to do that thru your pdf file. I hadn't noticed your ebook at the bottom until just now, as it's pretty inconspicuous. However, based on the (still) limited amount I've read from you, I get the feel it's worth considerably more than what many authors charge.

[this is very temporarily off subject, but] Regarding your noting how inactive your discussion group is, I would consider joining if I knew how to post to it. As I visit that site, I don't see anything providing that option.

Want to personally thank you for all the time and effort you've provided a board like this. As the quote you've cited says, "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Maybe I'm ready for that.

Hi

I did purchased the e-book few weeks ago and found it extremely useful.

The chapter on "Trendline 02" (which is part of the book) is well worth reading.

Thanks

Just click the www icon below. When you register for the site, you'll receive a free preview, a reading list, etc. There is also my private forum here (which is extraordinarily inactive), as well as the public Price/Volume Forum.

Hi dbphoenix,
how can i get your book?
thanks

I liked the book a lot. The only thing I would complain about is yellow background which makes it difficult to print out. Reading from paper is somewhat more convenient.

But I certainly wouldn't want to claim my money back!

Thanks, Db

After more than ten years, I'm finally giving up on Yahoo, which means that I have to find someplace to put this, and this is as good a place as any. Therefore, disregard any previous posts referring to a Yahoo group or a website. The "preview" of the book is here.

I'm happy to answer questions about the book, but discussion about the contents of the book should take place in my private group.
