Hi All,

Very basic questions here, how do I get started with Futures?

- What software do I need? (Tradestation - Multicharts)
- Do I need to pay for software?
- UK Broker (or broker which works directly with software)?
- Good sites or guides to follow/learn? (paid or unpaid - I've already found a lot of crap sites)

Thanks in advance.

1. I recommend: IB + Siera Chart (+ optionally Bracket Trader)
2. Yes
3. IB
4. few starters:

Happy Trading

PS make sure you start with a good plan (fund management etc) + Simulated trading with profits during at least 6 months before switching to life-trading.

Hi StealthTrading,

I am also from the UK looking for a good broker. I already have a data feed. What are the commissions like when using IB? I assume they give you free current quotes but no free historical data?

Hello, here you have posted some useful tips for us so thank you so much. I am a new trader and I am not as much aware of the future planning of trading. So that keep in touch always and try to help me where I will be confused in future.

No, you don't need to pay for software. There are many, many choices that are equal to or better than the paid versions. Off the top of my head - OEC/E-Futures International, NinjaTrader basic, and TransAct AT I believe.

Where you might get stuck paying is on the data feed for your platform... again depends on your broker/platform/data source choice

By the way for the fourth question... it's not specifically a futures trading guide, but ZeroHedge has fantastic news and commentary.
