In no certain order, the most important things for me are: 1.) spreads; 2.) no slippage; and 3.) regulation. Years in operation can be a proxy for regulation, although you would ideally want a broker who has been around and works under multiple regulatory bodies.

That being said, unfortunately there are no dream brokers. I always look for a broker with the best mix of the above, and have really taken a liking to Forex.com and Iron FX of late.

For me the above should be a standard. As a broker they should defiantly be regulated. Offer competitive spreads, reliable execution, offer the instruments you want to trade and be able to withdrawal money easily.

I don't go to bed dreaming of my broker but I what I do value most is being able to contact him at any moment.

I have a futures account and sometimes I do need to contact him. If I am in a trade or looking to get and I lose internet, platform freezes, power cut, computer shuts etc I will ring him up and he will execute, close or amend any trade for me.

He always answers the phone and responds to my non urgent queries via email promptly.

On the contrary customer support has the least importance for me. As Intraday trader I care much about gold triangle - execution, spreads, and slippage. Supply me with excellent quotes and don't bother even to reply on my queries - I won't disturb you at all :D.
Something around that I get with Tickmill, but still there is much to achieve in their service.

For me, regulation, security and a longstanding reputation for integrity and reliability are so important that they probably outweigh everything else.

Spread, execution and instruments are also relevant. So are several other issues.

Deposit withdrawal methods, in these anti-money-laundering regulatory days, are perhaps less significant since the primary constraints about this are inevitably legal/regulatory. Reliability and speed, of course, are still significant.

In conversations of this kind, people are inevitably trying to rank "in order of importance" things which are so important that all of them have to be "right" anyway, to justify using a broker. And once all of them have to right, it seems to me that their relative order of importance becomes more or less academic.

- Negative account balance protection
- Provides MT4 access as well as a decent web platform. Most brokers require you to select either the metatrader option or the web trading option. I don't see why it's not possible to link up both.
- Accurate price quotes
- ECN broker
- Offers guranteed stops
- Provide range of equities, commodities, indicies and forex
- Tight spreads / low commissions
- Allows hedge with the same margin
- No broker hedging against client positions
- Positive trader reviews
- FCA regulated broker
- Good customer service
- Quick trade execution
- No requotes
- Minimal slippage but when there is they pass on both negative and positive slippage
- Pays out interest to client with funds held in the brokers account
- Enhanced client money protection (because the standard £50k insurance is not enough in my opinion)
- No fees on deposits and withdrawals

I have not found a broker which ticks all of these boxes. LMAX ticks a decent amount of these but falls short on client protection.

same boat as me, I like the way put everything as "gold triangle" thing :). but indeed their service should be got more improvement, for example a better client cabinet, they should put more feature upon it, and also an account manager assignment for each client would be good too. combine these with their low cost trading condition should be a decent combination of decent brokerage service.

they surely put more feature on it, looking forward for their improvement. as long as their trading condition also improve into a better one. I do love the idea of account manager assignment, I do mean not the one who will taking care my trade, but more like someone who can directly assist me while in need for payment confirmation, etc. there's no such perfect brokers, but I do like to pick up the cheaper one, and honest.

I am new to trade so I would have to rate from my experience so far. I need someone to be available to me when I need their help. With my current broker, ****** I can call my accounts manager whenever I want which is good. I can also go on their website and get help from support on chat. I also want them to be highly regulated, reliable and trustworthy. All the information in your list are important but for me as a new trader the above is the most important.

yeah they should be, but since they still focusing with another client service matter. saw new deposit bonus release, quite same with previous one but this time available for everyone not only for new clients.
but the idea for account manager assignment are nice one, but their current customer service already fine one. not much online support who able to catch traders thought, most of brokers just put third party person to handle customers. while tickmill support staff are well knowledge one, not the kind of lip service and often make me to wait for another minute of confirmation with their top brass.

Very little slippage
At least 1:100 (I am a day trader) So definitely anything outside the USA.
UK Regulation, I used to trust the Australian regulators but now I dont know.
Deposit Withdrawals fast and hopefully occasional waive offs.

Lastly and most importantly, cheap ECNs.

Hi all,

there's no perfect brokers, as much as brokers owners may want to be the thing with owning any kind of business it cant be perfect at least not all the time there's times when things go out of control but the key is being legit & honest about it with the clients, regards all of specialties we as traders desires it all comes down to being honest & legit with the clients .

My dream broker would be the the one that executes the HS MASTER CLASS methodology.
disclaimer:- ........NOT FOR NEWBIE FX TRADERS - PLEASE USE OTHER METHODS.........

regulation? - always - FCA preferable. When I see Cyprus I get sick to the stomach.
spreads? - low as can be, no hidden fees
execution? - secondary
instruments? - secondary, can't research them all anyway
deposit withdrawals - as long as they don't take more than a week to send me my money, I'm ok
