Other than to make money obviously...

I was thinking, what do private traders/ investors want when they work from home/ office etc, is there anything other than a computer, internet connection and mind for markets that is helpful.

I mean is there anything in particular that you would like to have or be able to buy to help your trading, i.e. a bank of screens, designer chairs and desks, investment/ trading books, charting software, live data, mobile phones for trading on the go etc.

I just wondered in case there was anything which is particularly helpful in upping your game??

I could imagine some things helping, but are they really worth the outlay??

Cheers.

Plenty of time and space within which to be quiet and alone when you want to be those things. Not saying you always want or need to be this way, but if you have the luxury of being in full control in that regard, it's a plus.

Are you talking about porn? :whistling

i studied myself and found out that it wasn't money i wanted when i started, i wanted money, but for a much deeper reason, not discussing here :). now i want monies though so it's all good. So i guess a lot of traders out there want something else out of the market, they want to scream I DID IT BITCH, that's why they couldn't make money with a system even if you gave them one, nothing wrong with being independent and making your own things but motives must be clear!

True, I know there are many psychological traits required. But is there anything tangible that many traders would swear by, or at least be inclined to have?

I traded off one screen for a long time, I eventually got my hands on a 23 inch flatscreen which I now run alongside my PC. I'd say this was definitely worth the money and I'm thinking about getting a 3 or 4 screen setup. Apart from that I dont really need much apart from simple charting such as prorealtime and an account with broker that gives good margin and commission rates. I think the days of needing to be in an arcade to have access to technology and low commissions are pretty much over.

I over pay for my b.berg every month - I came from an Investment bank background and keep in touch with old colleagues who are unlucky enough to still be working for banks/HF's etc. i like the freedom of trading for myself but sometimes the pay is crap! could never give up my bloomie though even though there are far better/cheaper information systems out there - old habits die hard.

Get a Herman Miller Aeron chair. The standard version retails at £895 from John Lewis, but you can easily get a second hand one from eBay for £300.

Save your back, you'll need it when you're older.

Wow - a Bloomberg terminal for an individual investor. That must be pretty expensive, hopefully you have a lot of capital to play with in the market.

I like having 4 screens, there is always something you can put on them.
