Can someone educate me on the the way they short a stock in the U.S vs CFD's ?
They actually borrow the shares right but still on margin, whereas no exchange of shares is occuring with CFD's and the CFD broker is just paying you any profits and hedging the bet whilst no doubt earning interest on your account ?
I'd just like to fully understand the difference between the different ways of shorting stocks in the UK and the U.S.
Still scratching my head Ocado wasnt available to short with IG Markets last week. Are there any ways to short in the UK where there is a wide choice of shorting the smaller UK stocks ? How do the the big short only guys go short in the uk as i'm looking at available shorts on IG and not finding any of the well known shorts such as Cupid , Carpetright , or QPP as available ?
Maybe its a recent regulatory thing thats causing this ?
